Title: Help with simple running animation
Post by: mangodragon on March 06, 2016, 08:09:54 pm
Hey guys I'm working on a simple RPG-Roguelike game and am trying to do the pixel art myself. I crated the main character artist using inspiration from character shown at the end of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lKtEk6hH1M&index=9&list=PL9FzW-m48fn1gHoXXwep4blLnvVGHyeYj (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lKtEk6hH1M&index=9&list=PL9FzW-m48fn1gHoXXwep4blLnvVGHyeYj) however, I can't seem to get it looking right, it just ends up looking like a mess. How should I go about making a running animation for such a small sprite.

Here's the image: (http://i.imgur.com/XWDHcMt.png)

edit: for some reason the picture won't resize

Thank you!

Start with how many frames you want the animation to be. 2 frame run cycles tend to be kind of stiff, while more complex ones are more smooth.
Work from there.
A helpful diagram for walk cycles:
