Title: Flaber + Indigo + Mockup = Eyegasm
Post by: Indigo on September 20, 2006, 07:36:14 am
alright, the concept is simple.  It's a mockup collab, but a tad different than what you may be used to seeing.  Basically we just pixel untill we get bored with it and then we hand it over to the other player.  There are no rules - we can edit and change anything we see fit (including the other's work).  This makes this a sort of constant edit for eachother.  By the time this is done, we probably wont be able to say "I did this" or "he did that" because we both will essentially have worked on every part of the mock.  Makes for good-and-constaint C+C.  We decided to go with a common theme of "ghosts and forests platformer" for this.

the base:
just a simple grid with basic platforms.

here is the my turn:
just quickly blocking in basic objects and such

I wanted to work on the tree a bit, but got too distracted with the dirt.  I'll do that next turn.  And also, those pines have to go.  sorry mate.

The dirt up top in the tree branch seems a bit odd to me.
But this is only the begining so I'll have to wait and see how it turns out. :B

He has a point, it would be really cool to see the platforms worked into the trees...

I definately plan on doing so.  I didn't do any transition tiles at all.  All i did was slap a base tile everywhere.  Going to tweak it as we go along

I like the colours so far. I'm very interested to see this come together. You both have to pinky-swear you'll finish this :P

This is quite a twist on a normal collaboration picture. However it obviously could only work between two [or however many] talented artists who are good with communication. Definately would like to see how this evolves.

aiight - figured id played enough for now

SoOoOo
i figured that our slowly evolving mockup deserved a background. Its a real rough quick sketch. Thought that i would sketch out perhaps an idea for it. The colours arnt right, i know - i didnt spend time on choosing correct colours for it, just blocking it out. The greenery and plants make it look cluttered, yes, but they are just to give an idea of what perhaps we could do - a direction to take. Thats a canyon with a waterfall on the left incse ya missed that.

then the only other thing i played with was the top tile with grass
the grass you had before was really flat and uniform looking i felt. I figured it needed more variation, and depth, instead of being plastered down. I changed the colours abit because i wasnt too keen on the oranges in the grass.. it melded into the rocks below too much
The rocks were too geometric for me.. not naturally looking enough. Tried to add in variations and such, make it look alittle more muddier/dirtier, not sure if i accomplished that yet though. The large amount of highlights on your version allmost made it look like it was varnished - shiny dirt. Im not sure though if I have enough in mine, perhaps i have too little.
Spent abit of time matching it to the tiles below, but inorder to have matched nicely i would have had to redone all the tiles, but i really like the forms and shapes for the rocks you have below.

left the dirt in the tree because it kinda sounded like you had an idea for that.

have at 'errr
