Title: [C+C] 16x16 pixels. Looking for hints on amount of colors + animation
Post by: tzm on August 05, 2015, 04:27:41 pm
Hello everyone,

I am beginning my journey with pixels, and having some trouble already.

First the color pallete: the amount seems fine for the standing poses but limiting for the animations. Is this only an impression?

Conveys the movement, but surely can be improved.

Added a scene:

And the sheets for easier critic

(This is backwards, will fix soon)

Feel free to be VERY harsh!

obs:
*  The sprites are intended to be viewed in 2x, maybe 3x.

You are using too many shades.

i recomend you for the size of the sprite to acutally use 2 shades for color (instead of the 3 you are using) but use shades very contrasting.

For example:

Ignoring the color for the outlines (because you use black)  i used a regular purple and a BRIGHT purple, so you can notice the contrast between these 2 colors.

With something this size, you must make every pixel accountable.  Sometimes just hinting at a feature is all you need.  I didn't draw the arm because it would look too busy and harder to read.
I cleaned up what I think is a walk animation.  I left in some of the back outlines around the feet, but you get the idea.

@dpixel: Nice! I think see what you mean.
Will try to submit a rework of the animation by tomorow, did some work on the static pose in the mean time.

Redid the walking animation, maybe too heavy on the black?
@dpixel I'll try the style you proposed next

Nicely cleaned up.  Much more readable now.
