Title: [C+C] Book shelf background
Post by: PypeBros on July 01, 2015, 09:10:15 am
Hello all.

I'm back, and still in my fantasy world (http://wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=13151). I'm working on a new background for an alternate path of my little School-themed game. (http://sylvainhb.blogspot.be/2015/06/school-rush-casual-amiga-arcade.html)

^ the concept art scaled to pixel resolution, blended to some background-stylish colors and integrated into a mockup of the upcoming level.

^one of those tiki-styled books with proper shading, possibly needing color reduction, with a gradient that is suited to edition.

Hope I'm on a good path ... I've never tried to address something that big before 0_o
edit: they're finally featured in the game (http://sylvainhb.blogspot.be/2017/12/schoolrush-ny2018.html), although I had to use tricks to ensure I'd stay under the tiles count limit.

one more book processed. ... Now every "even" book is cleaned up.

Composition was built based on this photograph (https://hdwallpapers.cat/old_books_bbok_brown_abstract_hd-wallpaper-1679710/), btw.

(it doesn't feel tedious to do, but I'm quite slow at it ...)

50% of the books done, now... I hope you do not mind the bump.

One more book polished... And another one. Almost done for the laying books.

Do you people actually see those red books in the update posts, or do I have some remote filtering I'm not aware of at the hosting website ?

Is it just summer ?

I understand the frustration, but your images just seem to be in the purgatory of no one knowing what critiques to give or what to say. I've seen every new post in this topic, but never felt I had anything to contribute.

Yeah it's hard, because the screen you showed, showing them in action is kinda hard to read (at least the bottom connection) whihc is in my eyes the most troublesome spot to get feeling7looking alright and the books themselves look rather like rough sketches than anything where the exact pixel tachnique could be criticized.

And there is no exact question from your side to answer.

True. I have the feeling to explore a new territory blindfolded. I have never tried something that big, so I do not find what question to ask beside "am I going in the right direction".

Now that I'm at this level, I think I could use someone's eyes to spot places that have been "polished" and that still look like random garbage pixels to you.

Thanks you two for your support, anyway.
