Title: Struggling with animation
Post by: g-c. on September 21, 2014, 06:01:31 pm
Hello guys !  :)

Slowy going back to pixel art and i'm concentrating on animation.
I'm making a female walk animation, and even if i like it, i still think they are some issues that need to be resolved.  :-\
I would like to hear your advices about this.

Frame #5 (http://gif-explode.com/) should have max right leg extension, because it doesn't the step forward with that leg is short.
Also this is a bit fast; looks good otherwise.

Slapped together an edit for you:

Moved the closest shoulder forward on stride for 2 frames, looks less stiff. I planted the sprite on the bottom of the image and noticed the feet seemed to slide along the floor, so I lifted the feet on the upsteps. I also swapped the furthest legs wholesale between frames 1 and 8. Slowed the animation down by increasing the delay by 1 fps per frame. The up & down bob wasn't consistent, so I fixed that too.
Something I didn't illustrate in my edit: the furthest arm's motion could match the other more closely.
Great job otherwise, the arm "breaks" look good too  :)

PS I can't seem to fix the transparency issue your image is having  :blind:

The flashing backdrop isn't helping.
What software are you using?

PPD: GraphicsGale. I had transparency checked on both the layer and frame property windows.

I'm using the same : GraphicsGale but i don't knwo why it add a background on the first frame even when i set them all with transparency checked. Anyway thanks for the edit !

when i opened it the transparency for the first frame wasnt checked. also remember that the colour to be transparent has to be set per frame, and the first frame has a different colour background

That's what i've done but still, the first frame doesn't have transparency.

I'll try to correct that in my next update.

Here's a tip for controlling that.
