Title: Water Animation
Post by: owen on June 27, 2014, 08:24:34 am
Hello,

I am trying to make some water art for an  online RTS (http://www.littlewargame.com)

I was wondering if anyone had any critique one this, and how to animate this.

I had a go at animating a small area:

Water's hard to animate.  :-\  The number of colors for the water floor seemed like too many so I reduced that.  I didn't add any light reflections on the top of the water to match the wavyness, which I think would be a further improvement.

Thanks!  The short looks great and I'll definitely extend it to all four directions.

A couple of points about the water:

- I don't want to make it too distracting.  I tried following a tutorial to make a reticulating reflection pattern that moved across the top of the water, but I think it ended up being too busy for a game, even though it looks halfway decent on its own.

- I'd like to have two forms of water.  The first would be "non-directional" water, meant to represent lakes and ponds, while the "directional" water would be used for representing rivers and streams.  Any ideas or any examples that might be inspiring would be appreciated.
