Title: Entry for mobile challenge (Final Boss Updated)
Post by: Matriax on July 27, 2006, 06:07:25 pm
Hello,

Well, this is an entry for a challenge. In this challenge you need make a movil mockup of a gmae, and you need make a "menu" "in game" and "final boss".

is this:

(And yes is all a little busy...)

C+C plz.

Other than how busy it is, as you already mentioned, I'd try streamlining the fonts. Specifically, the STAR BATTLE font seems a bit off for this style of game. The menu's font looks just great. Also, I ask myself whether hearts are the best health counter you could use for a space ship game. Maybe blocks or circles? A bar that goes down? (perhaps even with a slight dithered gradient)

Looking good though! Good luck.

Looks like a midstage boss really. A final boss, I think would make much more impression if it where really colossal. Really, being the last thing you fight, a game developer who hopes to draw in more customers based on reputation would really want to make an impression. Like I said, this is the kinda midstage boss you forget the name of and are surprised with when you play the game again.

Mostly conjecture however.

The final boss looks a lot better now that its bigger. I really like the look of it, reminds me of the classics. The only suggestion that I have that hasn't been mentioned before is that I think the players ship is slightly big considering the size of the screen. In my opinion, if I were playing that game, then it would be very difficult because I don't have all that much room to move my ship away incoming lasers/missiles.

Other than that, looks really good, and I wish you luck in your competition  :)

It looks awesome, but I think the background sticks out a bit too much. If an enemy fighter would be over the planet in the first pic, I think he would blend in too much... how about darkening the planets a bit more?
And same thing as dyaru said, you should minimize the size of the player's ship slightly.

Other than that, it's incredible :-)
I'd like to play that game :D good luck!

Zach no problem, but what you say? i not understand well, you say the images have too much AA?

And same thing as dyaru said, you should minimize the size of the player's ship slightly.

Oks i going to minimize the a little the player.

I think some of the sprites, specifically the player's ship, are too blurry. Make them more crisp. For example, the powerups are very easy to pick out, but some of the shots fired by the ennemies, and the nose of the player's ship, just fade into the background.

I think this was what Zach was trying to get across also.

this looks terrific!  theres only one question i have....what is with the palette?  does it have to be that many shades of more or less the same color?  if you are allowed to choose your own, i would whole-heartedly suggest including several other hues even if you keep it all one ramp.  something like...:

but that is purely my own personal taste.  what you have now kicks some solid ass

Yes you need use this exact palette of 9 colours :) .

For example another entry:

And Adarias i like much your edit with this palette is really interesting and looks very good  ;D , but well you need to use the previus palette :) .

I try after edir to make all a little more "crisp".
