Title: Tutorials on Animating Flags?
Post by: Tetiro on February 20, 2014, 07:46:33 pm
Hey guys,

I don't normally post here as most answers can be found by a good Google session. However this time I have had very little luck.

I love pixel art and I wanted to do a game in pixel art and one of the things I need to sprite are flags. I can sprite still flags very easily but it is once I need to animate I fall flat on my face and get dirt in my eyes.

So I thought I would ask here as this community has never steered me wrong. Has anyone got any good tutorials on animation flags for pixel art?

I don't know any tutorials off hand.
However you can extrapolate from some reference.
Here's a big playlist of flags. (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA280ADDF60B3B17E)

The basic theory is to pass waves thru the object.
How complex or simple you want to represent that is up to you.

It would be helpful for you to post a flag you are trying to work with -----> a ref and an attempt of your own.
A flag can come in different shapes, sizes, constraints, materials, etc.

I had to animate a lot of flags for my game.
I will post again soon to show you how I figured out their animation.
