Title: Graphics Gale Questions - Finished Sprite mesh...
Post by: PixelSwordStopper on January 30, 2014, 02:21:45 am
??? I'm getting familiar with graphics gale and it's functions. The main problem is when i'm done with my sprite and I port to jpeg or any other format...it looks like there are some unnecessary spots of pixels...faded and everything messes up my art :l...any idea how I can fix this?

Never save anything in pixel art as a jpg. Jpg's add artifacts to compress the image, if it does this to other formats, then I don't know  :(. Png's and gif's should leave it as it should be.

Always save your main file in gal format and then save out copies as other formats as you need them.
Use File->Save As to change your current window to the new name/format. -----> use this to save a gal
Use File->Save a Copy to keep your current window the same but create a new file. -------> use this to save a gif, png, etc.
That way you always have the main gal file to draw on and you never save over it.

^ what those guys said! Always keep your main file a .gal file. and this definitely sounds like jpeg compression, but also bear in mind if youre working with more than 256 colours, and save that as a gif, the colours will be reduced automatically and you dont have a choice what stays and what doesnt! you could be lucky and it just looks a bit weird, but it can practically delete chunks of the picture.

ive run into that whilst making gifs..

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossy_compression (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossy_compression)

Does it do it with .png and .gif?

yeah thats a jpeg! you will always get that compression. If its saving as a jpeg when you open the pristine .gal file, and save it as a png or gif, your software is buggy
