hello, im really new to pixelart although i have some experience when it comes to digital art.
anyway, my question is, what program should i get to create pixel art?
i saw alot of recommended programs here, but is there a poll as to which program is mostly used by the
members of this community?

Just try some for yourself and see which program suits your workflow best. You shouldn't use a specific program just because the majority uses it.

oh ok. so theres no specific program that game developers prefer? like all programs are compatible?

They're all just tools for producing images, dude. Different applications have different features, obviously. Some applications support more exotic fileformats than others, but that only matters to the kind of person who has already decided that they need that fileformat (ie. obviously not you); everyone else just saves PNG or GIF.

If the game engine reads an image format directly, it's always better if the graphic tools can load & save directly that format, it avoids a step of converting. For example some games store their resources in PCX or TGA, and there are less editors that can edit them than GIF, PNG, or BMP.
Some functions are very useful for game graphics : a visible grid overlay, a snap-to-grid helper (like for placing sprites at exact multiples of 16)
Be sure to try a program that provides "Color-indexed" mode (not RGB), even if the game allows mixing palettes.
