Post by: Lilyo on September 13, 2013, 09:44:01 pm
Here's some early shit. I need inspiration and ideas. I have no real concept for characters, backgrounds, gameplay, story, etc.

Very cavestory esque, Try using some more interesting colors for the dirt and bring the dark rock's value more towards the middle blue rock. right Now it blends into the darkest rock tile.

You've currently got over 256 colours because its a jpeg.
Please reduce all your colours down and repost as PNG (or GIF for animations).

If its Photoshop:
1) Image - Mode - Indexed Colour.
2) Image - Mode - Color Table.

What you showed so far suggests temple ruins from a lost civilisation. Lots of things may happen here. I'd suggest a random walk in deviant art "lost temple" for brainstorming.

Stone blocks hint to some ruin theme. But it can be anything, really. Cave, forest, mountains, village, cemetary, space port.

Very Cellusious-esque. If thats the look you're going for, then look at his work.

First off your a kid in a retro arcade playing a MK II spoof, when suddenly you fall to the floor in seizures.  This whole scene is sprited with a touch of photorealism.  As the kid falls under the spell (it is later revealed that his brother hypnotized him to fall asleep and live the next game he played) the arcade fades out and your sprites fall into place, with the kid as.the main char.

This story.leaves you open to spoof your favorite game (doesn't have to be mk ii) and remake it.

Check out Black Tiger, Ghosts and Goblins, Castlevania, etc.
