Eehh... Yes...
What's the point of this, again?

I like the idea - Great work.

you can accurately repixel the background using about 10 colors.

I agree it's creative idea!
and i really like the colors between them!

Yes, I do like the idea, but that bear is kinda creepy...I think it would be cool to have some more interaction with the photo, though. Like, having something climb up from behind that cliff thing...or have a tugboat going beneath the bear's legs. Did you copy those colors from what was already there? If so, try challenging yourself by matching the atmosphere with your own colors.
Never mind.

Interesting concept nonthelesssss...
I think I'll give it a try.

I quite like it alot either way.

@Rodahue: Thanks, i should have really included the photo in the original post :-X
@Rox: I am a strong believer that art doesn't need a point other than the enjoyment of the artist, i enjoyed this, thus the point ;)
@Skull: Feel free to steal the idea, i was subconsciously inspired by matte paintings i think.
@Helm: I think the demosceners did a fine job of exactly copying thier references in pixels :D
@Silver: I can't really take credit from the colours as i used ones already present in the photo :)
@Xion: I saw your magnificent piece in the creativity thread. I'll definitley have more interaction in the next one.
@Alex: Thanks, your pixels always get me hot and bothered.

Then I will steal the idea.  :D
I like the second image, it's good, but you've faded an outline on it.. so it looks like one of thos poorly done PSD cutters..
See, the white-ish outline comes natural to the tree branches, down to light (?) but doesn't seem to work on the sprite itself.

Nah, the pale outlines are because of extreme JPG compression. Which is what I don't like about these. It's a fancy idea, but with these small, undetailed, super-compressed photos, you might as well just convert the whole thing into pixel art and try your best to replicate the realism by hand. That'd be a bit of a challenge, too.

If you're not fond of that idea, I suggest you use a more interesting base photo. Like... people in a park. Try to pixel a character so it looks like it's sitting next to real-life people or something. That'd be more fun to look at.

Ah well, as long as you enjoy it. I'm just saying, I don't see much of a point in showing it off.

ha, thanks dude. im really loving the concept you have going here, ive seen others do it alot too...and xion just did a piece i think. the first person i saw do it was scott though. its some real classy stuff.

A good amount of people in this thread said that they enjoyed these pieces. That's point enough, I think.

These are cool. The first one especially. Very mellow and weird ... I like it. I used to do this sorta thing all the time, but never really attempted to make the pixels match the picture in anyway.
DO MORE K KTHX.

Hey very much like the first one!
And Rox: I feel that the jpeg high compression and resulting loss and artifacts are very interesting when used in such a small pic (nice contrast to the 100% accurate pixel elements).
I'd go even further and compress it higher (and after that add the pixel elements and than save it all in a lossless format to preserve the pixel part). Nice and quite conceptual (or heading strait that way)...

I don't see how this has to do with anything.

IMO i think these are great.  Quite artistsic.  Pixel creatures lost in "the real world" could have a lot of philosophical meaning.  As far as the pixel skills go, they are great, though I'd lose the white around the bear in the latter.

I like this concept. messes with your mind.

I'd lose the white around the bear in the latter.
I think the white is there because the tree branches also have a similar light border.

The white just needs to AA better to the ... unit that is sitting on the branch.
