Title: Übermensch coder seeking Elite pixelninja artist for One Game A Month!
Post by: Parasyte on April 03, 2013, 09:08:37 am
Hello friendly pixelers! My name is Jay, better known on the internets as Parasyte. I'm a ridiculously seasoned coder (sometimes I wish that *was* just exaggeration), but I seriously suck at art.

I've been programming and hacking for well over a decade, and started seriously coding small games last year. I'm a member of the SF HTML5 Game Developers meetup group, and attend game jams in the Bay Area as often as I can. Last month I submitted my first game for One Game A Month (http://www.onegameamonth.com/kodewerx)! I'm a bit late to this one, but I suppose it's never really too late to start. :)

To keep up the pace, I would like to work with an artist who is as passionate and dedicated at making games as I am. Skill level/talent is important, as I am a perfectionist and will not settle for anything less than putting my heart and soul into these things; I can't expect you to be as crazy, but I do ask that your effort level remains high!

With that, here is a link to my current portfolio of "completed" games: http://www.kodewerx.org/projects/index.html (The most recent two use all of my own coder art.) And my blog, which contains daily progress entries, and postmortems: http://blog.kodewerx.org/

The bottom line, what is it you'll be signing up for? Well, as you can see, this request is for an unpaid "partnership", strictly for the thrill of making games and expanding your portfolio. All of the artwork remains your own, and may be licensed however you wish (I recommend CC-BY or CC-BY-SA). All of my games are released fully open source, often with no explicit license (assume MIT license).

In terms of style, I'm open to just about anything. I grew up on NES and SNES games, so that's a simple comparison you can make. More impressive is art which makes use of limited resolution and color depth but manages to achieve striking results. As for specific examples, I think this post pretty much covers what I'm talking about: http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?p=56076#p56076 Art designed in this manner is extremely interesting to me.

As an aside, I am building a super ultra mega ninja dreamteam of game developers to form an indie game development startup in the San Francisco Bay Area. That will take time and perseverance, including a lot of trial and error until the right combination of awesome games and investor interest make it happen. Let's just say that I'll be keeping my day job for a while. :) But if the opportunity arises, being in or relocating to the Bay Area will be extremely advantageous!

For those not following 1GAM, April's optional theme word is "Spring!" I don't have any ideas for this one yet, and collaboration is going to be a big part of making this team a success.

Thanks everyone for listening, and I'm really excited to work with you.

I might be interested in teaming up for some projects.
I've actually been looking for a dedicated programmer to maybe finish up a few of my projects as well.

I have a Dev Log of all my ongoing artwork over at TIGForums.
