I've started work on this alien being today, but I want to know that I'm going in the right direction before I do too much.

The two white holes will have arms in them.
I'm trying to go for a more angular/jointed look, not sure how to pull it off.
Shading looks off to me as well, help?? ;D

It's cool-looking :)
For a more "angular" look, you just have to reduce the smoothness of the profile, and reduce the number of lines used to portray the shapes. Think of it like doing a low-poly 3d model.
As for the shading looking weird, I don't know if you meant the light source, but the dithered shadows don't look too good to me :blind:

I think it looks better without dithering, yeah.

Another palette?
The pink thing will a energy double-axe thingy.
C&C?

Why would a crab man - with dangerous pincers - need an axe? ??? Also looks quite difficult for it to hold onto.
Then again, maybe that's what makes it awesome.
-
That's an excellent point!
However, I will ignore it in favor of a laser-axe-wielding crab monster alien, instead of an ordinary crab monster alien.

that reminds me a lot this

since the concept got already critique, I think the two main things here which could be improved is that the drawing looks flat and don't tells us anything about the forms. Especially how the leg are connected with the body feels iffy.
Concentrate on rendering the basic forms without details first.
In this step you'll also set the main ligthing, so it would be good do put some thoughts into it too - the key is to understand how the light affects the basic forms.
