Title: Solemn Gratefulness

I don't like the lightining that much and I really need help with that, his hand that has been cut-off is holding a flower. This is just a piece that represents what I feel sometimes. In the back it's a fighter girl, and she just chopped him but he was going to give her that flower.

I guess you haven't started shading the girl yet. Anyway I think she should be in some kind of light, and the orc in dense shadow, so that the viewer would immediately focus on the girl, then gradually take in the bloody scene.

I liked the other concept :[

Right now I cant see anything glaringly off about the image. You could always fiddle with composition but you wont necessarily make it better.

I will say though that image will work better with the orc to the left and woman to the right- if you are expecting a predominately western audience. this has to do with us naturally reading from left to right, and the image works better sequentially that way.

Generally speaking the older one looks like the person with axe is leaving the cave after a deed done (because of how we read from left to right as Ryumaru pointed out, and also because we have only a silhouette, also it makes sense with the corpse being hacked apart and all).

In the new one it looks like the axe wielding person is just entering the cave. From that standpoint I would agree (I think this is what Ryu ment anyway) that the older one is better in terms of composition, at least as far as storytelling goes.

Actually I think he meant the older one from before philippejugnet edited his first post. The girl with the axe was sitting on the floor to the left, a bit behind the dead orc, putting lipstick on and using her bloodied axe as a mirror.

But I like them both.  :P

You are both kind of right :P I really enjoyed the lipstick one, but also the one that reads from left to right as it is more successful sequentially.

Ok, now you're just going to hate me.

I think this version works better still because not only does it include the left to right reading but it creates a Z in the composition as opposed to a straight line. I've read that the reason that compositional device works so well is because we are always looking for paths, and thats basically what this zig zag line is:

However I do like the altered canvas dimensions as well as you starting to flesh out the light more. I guess composition could be fiddled with more :p

Take this idea with a grain of salt; personally I enjoy it more, but compositional rules and guidelines are broken all the time.
