Title: [WIP]WoW Dwarf Guy
Post by: e4r on June 21, 2012, 01:43:27 am
Hey, I started working on a dwarf from World of Warcraft and I thought I'd post my progress and hope for some C+C on the way to completing it, anyways, here's what I got so far!

I have a feeling there is something wrong with the perspective of rifle.
It appears that the visor/ironsight is placed at the side of the barrel instead of on top.
There's also a wobble on the lower line of the barrel towards the wooden part.

On the other hand: Is this the whole drawing? do you want to put feet/belly in the final piece?
I am curious to see them and feel i actually can't properly judge it like this.

Yeah the gun gave me problem, I'll try to fix it in the next update, and no this isn't all the lineart, it's just wha tI got right now, I'm going to add a belly and feet and all that today when I wake up from my sleep lol. Here's the reference for anyone who was wondering:

Rather quick edit...with rough lines.

I tend to like a darkened tone in my work, so excuse the beard lol

- Either way if you use a reference, always try your best to capture their expression in your work

Whoa, the barell is off even in the source art!
It's funny, If i made a guy like this i'd start working that lovely beard too!

Regardless of whatever is lovely in the picture, you need to get the basics done before you can jump onto any details...

Make a whole character concept, block out/
fix anatomy, work on colors and then go more indepth

+1

The hell of selectively fleshing stuff out is that the unfinished areas inform the finished areas, forcing you to go over them yet again. It just torpedoes your speed!

I just noticed you had created a topic about a golem, and it doesn't contain a finished result!

Regardless of your freedom to create whatever you want and whenever you want, I encorage you to finish the golem or whatever piece you had worked on before to prevent you from entering the typical very common bad habit we artists tend to get, WIP-sickness! Finish piece by piece, else you'll end up with 10000 WIP's in some years

Yeah I'll finish it eventually <---(First sign of WIP Sickness Lol) but I don't got the motivation right now for that piece of art because it was frustrating me, so I wanted to define my skills a bit more before attempting that. I want to make the piece good, and not another "meh" piece when I look at it. Anyways back to the dwarf, I'm gonna finish the outline and try to fix some anatomy but since this thing isn't really human? anatomy? I guess I'll have to shrink the anatomy of a human to proportion to fit the dwarf. And to the guy who talked about the gun, it was giving me a lot of trouble to get the proportion right on it, so I stuck with that until I can get it right =/

I just edited this post instead of another reply because it was double post, anyways here's the latest, I tried to fix perspectives, but I still think the gun is not right still, it's frustrating lol. I tried to make a bone structure using yours as reference elk and did my outline around it hoping it would help me get the perspective correctly.

check the angle to the top of the gun and the angle of the bottom of the gun in relation to the reference image.. both angle downwards, but you have the top of the gun almost horizontal. Make it align more to the angle of the hands(their angle with each other).
