Title: Pixel Artist Interviews (nvision)
Post by: sedgemonkey on June 08, 2006, 04:19:47 pm
Pixel Joint will now be featuring a new pixel artist on a regular basis (at least that's the idea) featuring some work, an interview and a bio.  For our initial launch randomblink interviewed nvision. Check it!

http://www.pixeljoint.com/2006/06/08/1766/featured-pixel-artist-nvision.htm

If you would like to nominate a pixel artist to be featured in the future or if you have any questions you'd like to see asked in future interviews post them here or PM me.  Thanks!

Can I suggest keeping a short leash on the "..."? =) It is a good tool to get people talking in an interview, but when you use it every time you say something, it either sounds like you are trying to create false suspense, or you have ADD and keep wandering away from the computer ;)

Very nice interview =D

Also maybe the interviewer can contain the 'oh yes, x thing, mmmmm, I like!' not that I mind, but it would upset a chit-chat type interview and derail. Over msn or something I guess it's not such a big deal. Generally, let the one being interviewed do most of the talking.

I totally agree with both of you.  I actually cleaned up the interview quite a bit (it WAS an instant messenger interview), but I will make sure to further edit in the future.

Edit:  I did take out some of the "..." and took out some of the interviewer comments.  Thanks again guys!

I noticed that the background color was starting to fade out the text as I stared at the story for a long time. Perhaps increase the font-size or change some colors?

I nominate Monsoon2d for the next interview! Gustav, if you can get him, too! Sals will probably have many interesting things to say, as would supergoat!

As would you.

It's looking really good now, sedge =)

(the text-on-bg colors don't bother me but I can see how they would bother some people)

*four cheers*

@Helm:  Those are all good suggestions.  I'll hit them up and see if they are game.  As Filax_666 mentioned you'd be a pretty damn good interview as well.

Semi-off-topic, but you can adjust all sorts of stuff at Pixel Joint (although I know it's not immediately obvious). The text-size and font family adjustments can be found by hovering over the "Adjust Text" link at the top of articles and you can change the "theme" (colors) by creating an account and selecting a new theme in your profile. For example...

I'm up for it if you can't find someone you want more.

Glad to see pjoint getting better and better. It's impressive how much time you dedicate to it.

I think Riva (if you can track him down), and Wolverine would make good interviews.  Perhaps also -DE-.

Umm, sorry if this comes off like a jerk, but I think it's not important who you interview, but what you ask them. I don't think I'm going to be interested if all you ever ask is "so, how did you start with pixel art" and "how did you become badass like that?", nicely intertwined with the occasional "I love your shit man". It doesn't make for really interesting interviewing stuff.

I'm a little cranky tonight, so don't mind me

I'm not quite sure what you expect out of an interview, but if you have a question (or a line of questions) you'd like to see in future interviews hit me up with a PM or just post in this thread.  It's a new feature and we're more than willing to refine the process.

Yeah I love reading these type of things. Nice one Ian!

There was another interview about Nvision somewhere on the net which I rememeber reading last year..

I would love to see a sals interview.. career wise he seems to be very successful, or basically any of those artists mentioned above :D

Regarding this Question:
PJ:  Do you have a list of games/projects you have worked on in the past?

I think it should be moved past the next paragraph, as it doesn't match the current answer.

@Frychiko:  Thanks for pointing that out.  Fixed.

Sorry for that last post, I'm kinda in a bad period, troubles at home.

Anyway, interview Adam Tierny (Sals), he's without doubt the most interesting person right now. He's one of the reasons some of our older posters finally get the chances they deserve...

Big brother and st0ven, are interesting options as well, though st0ven already has a nice full page of info of his own. Maybe Paul Robertson too, i like his commitment to his works.

First of all I'd like to say that the interview with nvision was great and I'm looking forward to read more interviews. It would be fun if you could track down some of the old pixelartists that were around in the Amiga days for an interview. It would be interesting to hear they opinion on the "modern" pixelart scene and what they do now. There are so much that you can learn from the old masters.

EDIT: Yes I know many of them have already been interviewed in GFXZone.

@Turbo:  Big brother and st0ven would be great interviews as well -- terrific talents.  I'd definitely like to know more about Paul Robertson with his recent Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006 thing. If anyone knows a good way to reach that fella lemme know (no response from his email).

@Gil:  From my occasional skimming of the Pixelopolis forum I can tell that Adam Tierny is a terrific asset to the community. I will definitely hit him up.

@Mr.Modem:  I would definitely be interested in that.  Any suggestions on specific artists?

@Helm: We'd definitely love to hit you up...  Working on PJ is a real good time for me most of the time. I love seeing all the terrific work that flows into the gallery.

Old amiga artists to interview (apart from those Helm already have mentioned): RA (my favourite), Peachy, Facet, Made. I also really like to see an interview with Gustav.

I can hook you up with Gustav, Josh, Paul Robertson or Jeremy Dower if you need. If we're looking out of the comunity, you could always interview Matt Bozon, too. He's the Creative Director at my company and created Shantae and Sigma Star Saga. He's also one of the biggest pushers for quality, traditional pixel animation in games today.

Wow, that's so nice of you Adam.  We definitely would love to hit you up about those peeps especially Paul Robertson -- that Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006 has been the topic of much discussion and I'd love to get the scoop straight from the horse's mouth.
