Title: First Try at Profile Sprites
Post by: dyuaru on June 02, 2006, 03:52:00 am
Although its a rather small profile sprite, it is still my first try at venturing away from the small world of pixel art. I tried making it have atleast some aspects of lighting in it, but of course, it did not turn out how I wanted. Also, these are the first sprites that I have made with Pro Motion and I'm just beginning to learn things about the program so bear with me. Comments and critique will be appreciated and anything else that will help me with making profile sprites would be helpful as well.

Here is the bald head sprite

And here is some hair that I added real quick.

Thanks for your help.

well this is pretty much my 1st critique but i hope it helps

i pushed in some of the face (shown by the arrows) then i fixed up some shading under his eye and in the darker part of the hair, then i made his lighter eye to suit the lighter side of his face, then i fixed up some shading under his hair, then i added a bolder line for his mouth to make it more visible, and then made his ear less pointed out :P

and thats pretty much it, what u think?

Thanks for the tips on the shading, the newer shading on it looks much better. As for the face I was trying to get the thin face look and not the normal chubbier version of a face. Either way your edit helped so thanks!

Does anyone else see anything wrong with or something that should be changed on the sprite?
Or just advice?

999... 1000... 1001. . . Agh! I've done too many edits!

this probably isn't the style you're going for, but...
some of the basic changes I've done are:
-Pulled the color count down from 19 to 9
-Moved the eyes down a bit
-added some more contrast
-got rid of the inner outlines

and the nitpicky stuff:
-gave him an Adamsapple (it doesn't look good though)
-cut part of the ear off
-popped out his cheek bone to make him look skinnier
-messed with the hair some
-pointied his nose

I hope this helped some, happy pixeling!

not really an edit, but more of an example of anatomy of things

Ah Zach that sprite comparison helps quite a bit, I didn't think about anatomy when I did it and just looked at some pictures to get a basic idea. I'll work on the neck and make it a bit more realistic.

And Kcilc thanks for helping me abit on the lighting and shading.
Thanks for the help, I'll work on an update as soon as I can.
