Title: GR#071 - The Werecrow
Post by: Zettman on September 02, 2011, 06:50:54 pm
Hey guys, this is my old account... I'm usually known as Crow now ^^

But uhm, I wanted to post my latest pixel since I haven't been on this in the looongest (I bet no one remembers me :P... Maybe the admins? lol)

I didn't do it alone, Elk helped me alot on it. :)

I should probably take the time to say that, this is for my RPG - Wreckquiem... And I need a hand in the art department >.< it's a dark styled Rpg, if that's your type of thing email me at BBQPollo@live.com :)

C+C away!

Werecrow. Cool thought applying the concept of 'wolf to werewolf' to something else. Haven't come across that before.

Looking good, assuming it's WIP, like it appears. I'd never know his design was derived from a crow if it weren't for the beak and even that I had to look for once I realized what it was supposed to be.

Light grey head feathers are especially formless. Needs more shading steps.

What's the red stuff on his torso?

Needs some Anti-Aliasing too, and the red line under the eyes has too much saturation

It reminds me of "The World Ends With You" 's enemies, did you take inspiration from it? : )  (that game rocks)

Will adding some black feathers around him add some bird essence? :/ Can't think of what else would help demonstrate the idea... Maybe the wings are too "Bat" style, and not feather enough. Oh and I'll fix the hair, you're right.

As for the eyes being too saturated, since the game itself has a dark style I was thinking that the high saturation could help give a "glow in the dark" effect, something that captures the eye.
I'll post an edit soon.

The only reason I never AA is because I don't find it fun, or artistical... It's more geometrical, and not fun at all. I don't do anything if I don't find it fun ^^

P.S. The new forum icons and stuff are annoying, I've double posted and early replied while in the middle of replying so far without wanting to  .-. grr.

Lookin' good there : D

I insist in saying that just the SLIGHTEST bit of anti-aliasing would make it look 1000000x better : p  :y:

xD If I did the AA it would be just to make it look fashionable on paper... As far as then putting it in the game, and having to AA everything else >.> not really down for that kind of commitment. At all, lol.

You should post a mockup with a background so that we can see how it would look ; )

I wish I had the time, when I find some though I'll get to that. I need to post mock ups for other sites too anyhow :D

For those that attempt pixel art and think this way, I have this to say - You're lazy. Your stuff will always be on a lower plane that of your pixel heroes. Good art takes hard work and dedication. If a concept can be fully rendered without serious polishing work put into it, how much merit can it have? Potential wasted.

I honestly thought your werecrow, when you first posted it, was halfway done - shapes all roughed in, things still looking very mirrored, all pixels looking rough, strays needing cleaned. Yet it's on PJ already.

These are only my opinions. But they're principles I live by, too.

Would love to to do a makeover edit of your werecrow, because I love the character, and I think I'd maybe convince you to put a little more work into your stuff, but don't feel I can take the time right now.

(prinny, dood, whuh?  Turn that text in yer sig to a link homey. Last post on yer porty is a quote of your OP (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=8792.msg121468#msg121468), BTW)

I just realized something, Red Knight... You're from Italy too? o.o lol.

Mat after reading that you almost convinced me to take myself more seriously, but the more I take pixel art seriously, the more it becomes less of a hobby... I should be spending more time drawing >.< Anyhow, I respect your principles and I think I will edit it as I find more time through the week and repost updates aswell as on PJ.

And I don't know how to turn my signature link into an entire clickable link :/

^What's the point of a hobby if you're not going to try, though? The more you put into your hobbies, the more they'll give back. Your crow monster is pretty cool looking, and I'm looking forward to seeing him finished. =)

Great idea. Drawing is good. If you don't have the patience for refining PA, I understand. Somehow I have never-ending patience. Most don't.

Keep up the good (but rough-looking!) work.

And jams0988 speaks the truth.

I'm usually known as Crow now ^^

Sorry, name's taken :P

I'm liking the piece so far, but I'm having a hard time distinguishing the wings from the rest of the body. Not sure what you could do with them exactly, but I believe you should do something about it. Also, the pose seems a bit strange in general. Are the fists resting on (invisible) ground? They seem to be, but then the feet don't really make sense anymore. They look a tad like he (?) is flying, with the bent knees and everything. Having your arms in such a position while flying seems a bit strange to me though.

Yay, 2^7 posts!

this should do the trick, adding the dark-red shade he used on the body : )

Mathias is correct... if you're not AAing it indicated laziness... and if you don't want to put commitment into it, it wont look good!
On MSN you said you wanted to animate it too and stuff... if you just talk and don't do, it wont fly, duh

something like that... a little touched up

Jeez Elk, you pwned me with that last edit... The wings came out 100% bat-like in the end I guess lol. Thanks for showing me how to tackle it on from here though! Looks alot less "raw" and alot more distinguishable.

To the guy with the name Crow; There can only be one black bird here!

Checking Elkys post about how Zett talks much and stuff interesting... Checking Redknights profile (10.125 posts per day) interesting...  :hehe:

I just realized something, Red Knight... You're from Italy too? o.o lol.

Very interesting  Edit: Italians hehe...
