Title: The Forgotten Planet - Tiles W.I.P
Post by: SolarStrings on June 25, 2011, 10:56:46 am
Hello!

I recently hired a pixel artist to do art for my game "The Forgotten Planet" (Blog: http://theforgottenplanet.blogspot.com).
A few days before that, I sat down myself and tried to do some art for the game:

These Four tiles took me 8-10 hours of work during 2 days. (I'm no pixel artist, so getting tings right takes a long time for me)

I used these Metroid Fusion tiles as reference:

C & C is welcome!

Looks great!

The Metroid tiles aren't completely flat at the top for a reason. You might add some bumps to the top too.

yeah, he is right.
And man, I really love that glowy line on top of the rocks, really makes the whole thing special.

Nice work, I think you're pulling it of well.

Another interesting thing with the Metroid tiles: the darker line above the top glow line is actually a lot redder and more saturated than the rocks themselves!

yup, forced contrast.  if they wanted the most breaking line, they might have gone for cyan since the rocks are already red, but it's a nice touch.  really makes the playable platform intuitively clear next to other complicated scenery.

Thanks for the C & C!

I will probably do some more tiles for the game later on, but for now I'm leaving that to the pixel artist I hired.

The artist is working on those "bumps" ontop of the tiles now :)

Now I'm focusing on coding all the features for the game.
Having an pixel artist creating art for the game, makes me put more time and effort into the game, driving it forward at a steady pace.
