Title: (No subject - because i am a lazy sod)
Post by: miascugh on May 13, 2006, 12:49:11 pm
now, i really don't think that this should get its own topic, but it didn't seem to fit into any of the mass-threads. obviously inspired by adarias but also other postings that have been around recently, i thought i'd hop on the bandwagon and do some experimenting myself. there is no real logic behind it, and i only noticed how short his right upperarm is when i was done coloring

hope you enjoy it

its weird how the fleshy tones blend into the gray so easily

Gray's the magik non-kolor.

This is going well so far, it'll have to be a bit cleaner before I can try to crit. Maybe the muscles in the back, around neck are a bit too pronounced, style taken into account and all.

i like it for the style, you pixel figures as though you were painting them

only thing im confused about is the lines, but perhaps they will make mre sense later :P

i didn't really intend to finish this up any more, but i'm cleaning it up now anyways

I'm afraid the lines won't make any more sense later either :) it was a bit empty in the belly area... so i naturally extended the stripes of the pirate-panties. though i might as well incorporate them into the design in a less abstract fashion, i guess

thanks for the quick replies

edit: more refined, possibly as as it will get

The colors are good, interesting to the eye, regardless of theory (or lack thereof) I eagerly await when you use similar skills for a piece you've put yourself into more, conceptually.

You know I love it, Mia. Bootyful pallete!

Is there more to the picture? Only saying that because that guy's face is cut off.

helm: :) mhh, well, this might not happen any too soon, because i actually should make some pieces for my portfolio i need till fall, and shouldn't 'waste' my few 'moments' on  further 'pixel art' (though i could put in some pixels more tailored towards committee tastes, who knows)

darion: no, i made the guy in the middle and randomly started filling the space around, utterly conceptless, unfortunately. thanks man

Yeah, I hear you. I have at least a couple if pixel pieces that I really want to do, swimming about in my head, waiting... waaaaiiting until I can steal hours off of comic work to do them... eventually. What happen! Somebody growed us up!

im afraid to leave school....i have 3 1/2 hours every day dedicated to art that i dont want to give up (:()im looking forward to college though (3 hour studios, art history, and foundations of education is going to rock so hard)
the lastest version looks great and the lines, though the dont make sense, look really good now.
i have the same problem regarding not having time to finish any pixelart, im trying to get into college and, as much as i love traditional work (much more than pixelart actually), it would be nice to put in one or two of the pixel pieces alongside the paints.  oh well  :-\

I wouldn't make too much of a deal out of theory in this case, as long as the piece looks interesting (which it does).  It's a lot like music: communicating a feeling is a lot more important than the amount of skill needed to write or perform the music.  However, when someone uses theory well when communicating a feeling, that's where da majik happens.

in a very real way, knowledge is knowing the rules, mastery is knowing when and where to break them (if you study music, you know its so popular to break the rules that there is now a whole set of rules regarding the rulebreaking (accidentals)  :P)

would that we could all be such masters >.<

oh, i was afraid too, but it feels so good after all the imposition that comes along with the changes finally abates and you can just start to make something of your life.
i'm having some troubles with getting away from pixeling and cging, because it basicly is the only thing i have ever done, and there still is a lot of learning to do for me. while printing techniques, inking, painting and drawing (i want to have it all covered in my portfolio) really is interesting and new for me, it just isn't very pleasing and a bit intimidating if you can't realise your mental image the way you want it. i'm also a bit lost as to where to start learning.

also, i'm not really a sodomist, no. some mean spirit must habe put it there sven
