The Firebrand sprite uses a practically black color for the darkest shadows. Your sprite seems washed out compared to that. I'd darken the three darkest grays in your palette.

I agree - I would also rethink your pose a little - the original looks active/forward-leaning, while yours appears to be squatting/leaning back a little bit, makes him looks a little less heroic/dynamic.  I would make the waist a smidge higher too, so you could have slightly longer legs.  The belt looks a little washed out, and the hands are kind of muddy.  His visor looks very thin, a thicker visor would be more appealing I think.  Regardless, very nice start!
