:S
The tree shows a light source to the right
The guy shows a light source to the left
The boxes show a light source in front of the viewer
The Shadows shows a light source behind everything in the scene
Your box are just about on the same level horizontally but the shadows and perspective show different depths
The tree light shading is a little choppy
There us a single red pixel in the base of the tree top :S
That was after looking really into detail but it actually looks pretty good.

Yeah, the bg was from an older version. Thanks for the comment!

Landscape concept.

Hmm I don't really see a landscape concept, per se. Just a building. Neat reference.
Will the screen scroll horizontally? You're using 1-point perspective here, which looks fine. If the screen scrolls staying in perspective may be difficult. You could even repeat your perspective grid, tiling it by mirroring it for each "tile", therefore giving your self infinite horizontal space if the game will scroll. Perhaps a gimmick like the old school Defender could even be employed for seamless repeating.
Just a weird thought for you. It's always nice to explore original things to use for games to make them stand out from the sea of other games

Those are some interesting ideas Mathias; however, the screen will not scroll.

Right now the bg overpowers the player in terms of priority. White is brighter than green/brown.
