I'm doing a platformer featuring a spotted hyena character.

This is what I have so far. Should I continue with my black outlines? or should I leave black only for certain details? Also, do my rocks look too pillowy? I know the shading's all messed up but it the lighting was meant to signify that it was a wall you can bump against and not just some background element.

The hyena reminds me a lot of:

Any chance you used it as reference?

Got immediate Lion King vibes, too.
If it's a cave, it think a much darker bg would be more appropriate.
Detail resolution of hyena char and map tiles doesn't match.

It seems your hyena is missing a leg. :o

Lionking? Sure thing.

That hyena is a WIP. I am dispeased with the shading. Do you think it looks too gradient-ly? Any tips on how to fix that? Edits?

I really like the first hyena's shading better. I think the back leg should have a black outline like the front legs though.

But the first hyena is not shaded D:

How come the hyena is shaded as if it's on a bright summer day if he's inside a cave? He should be slightly darker and have the blue caves reflect some of the light on him(her?).

Maybe we could put an in-game filter then.

Run run run!
I've no idea what to do with the mane; it's awfully shaded and the tail doesn't look quite right. The ears should also flop a little.
