Title: NES 3rd Person Shmup
Post by: Mush on March 01, 2011, 02:35:26 am
I can't stop doing this NES stuff. I might actually make this into a game.

The game will play like Nam 1975 and Wild Guns, but with the ability to build and upgrade turrets and other machinery.

Hmm explain more of your game concept. Isn't Wild Guns a fast-paced shoot-em-up side scroller? How will turrets stay around long enough to care about upgrading, homes?

Very neat sprites. All NES compliant? Sure looks like it. Except maybe the size of a few sprites causing some complication, but still doable I believe. Do us some game world scenes.

You're right, there probably won't upgrades :)

I'm still trying to figure the settings so I made a walking anim (does it look too fast on your browser?)

These are good ;D

The walking animation looks a bit akward, at first glance the way he walks makes it seem like he's sort of hopping along, and the gun looks as though he's flailing it left and right, like he doesn't know how to use the weapon, it makes it look goofy  :sry:

Anyway, keep it up, I love NES sprites.

It's not side scrolling, it's a shooting gallery-kind of game, but in 3rd person, so you control your character as well as the cursor. So the screen stands still and you shoot into the screen ' D '

I think turrets would work great for this kind of game. Sorry about the side-tracking.

It's a start. Not completely optimized for tiling -- just wanted to produce a mock.

It's a very nice start too! I really like the pipes on the left, though the shadow looks like more pipe.
The underside of the conveyor belt (which is mysteriously floating unobstructed) should probably be darker.

Clearly there will be a lot of shadows in this game, can we expect some film noire style lighting from the windows?

I hope to see a little more in the room to better describe it.
