Fun idea.
I like the higher contrast of the new version. 

I'm not sure the lighting is consistent, though.  One arm lit from the side, face from front above, legs from front / below, check and belly from  ?

the devil horns seem a bit messy and end up looking like fins; with the mohawk, the whole zombie comes off looking more like a swamp mutant.  I'd say tone the middle 2 fingers down small amount
