Title: Link's Awakening style Harry Potter
Post by: DtFM on October 08, 2010, 02:52:50 pm
My first attempt at pixel art. I'm not too happy with his body when he is holding out his wand.

Maybe you should make the wand a bit smaller? it still looks more like a sword, even without the actual hilt. Other than that, it looks like it came right out of the zelda game! 2 thumbs up!  :y:  :y:

But... What about the upwalk sprites?

The outline on the wand's movement blur kinda' makes it look like a pick-axe  ::)

Wait, that isn't a pickaxe?

Instead of adding outline to the blur, fill it with a single solid color.

I worked on the wand movement a bit to make it less like a pick-axe. I tried making the wand smaller as well, I haven't decided whether I prefer it yet.

New smaller wand:

I also animated the walking sprites:

Why don't you just try blurring it? As in, taking both the start point and the end point for the wand swing and filling in the middle with a solid color. Should look great, I predict :y:

I reworked the wand animation a little and added another frame:

I'll try to make a blurred version like EvilEye suggested.

Or add one more frame, so the arc of the blur remains there briefly when the sword has finished moving.

More in the spirit of EvilEye's suggestion, here's one with a more solid blur and no sword in-between view.  Gives it more impact to just have a FLASH tracing the arc from start to finish than to show the sword in its mid-arc state.

Argyle has the basic idea. Here is my edit:

I had a go at blurring the wand motion:

And got around to making an upwalk animation:

And potion drinking:

I also had an attempt at doing Hagrid (32x32 sprites make it a lot easier to see how much of an amateur I am  :)):
