I'm starting back at the sketch since everyone liked it better then the lines.

I actually like the sketchy version better. It has better energy to it. Like you can actually see the chaos and anguish the zombie is screeming.
Go with the rough version, that's my opinion.

I liked the rough version, but it was less realistic.
I really did not like the line art of the mouth...
Then I started thinking about a guy who wasn't quite a zombie yet and he gets impaled in the head.
It would still hurt because he wouldn't be full zombie...

Can you be a half Zombie? I thought you were either alive and therefore 'NOT' a Zombie or dead and 'A' Zombie?
I prefer the sketch as well, the last image is not really finished anyway so that may change, I think you have some pillow shading issues with the eyeballs and it doesnt really look like a Zombie more some kind of green bean bag frog abomination.

I also liked the sketchy version. "You can almost feel his pain" no longer applies to the newer ones. The mouth is what I liked most, because it was open in a fashion more befitting of the term OMG. If you're going for realism, then you might wanna consider a complete redesign, cause none of these have anything close to what I would call realism. The eyes are extremely pilow-shaded, and have some odd-looking and inconsistent angles...um, they're not round.

Well, there are quite a few zombie virii out there. I wouldn't be surprised if there was one that completed the zombification process before the host being was biologically dead. Quite a painful experience, I imagine.

Some dude thought he was a zombie and killed him early.
(I may re-do the lines with teh old sketch since you all like that one better.)
