Title: PLEASE SUBMIT FINAL "SKINS" For contest here!
Post by: Holymonkey on July 18, 2010, 08:48:07 am
Hi Everyone,

Remember this thread? http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=7810.0 (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=7810.0)

Unfortunately it didn't get much response and dragged on and on.  I think its time to call it a wrap and vote on a winner.  Those who had worked on a Skin, please submit a working link HERE ASAP.

I've sent private messenges to those who it seemed had been working on something to try and get their atention.

If you know any of the people who were working on something, please help get this to their attention.

Please help me wrap this up everyone.

thanks much,

Holymonkey.

I didn't finish anything. The games are nice for testing assets though.

Anyone else?  Is Atnas the only contender for the 100 dollar prize? ;) I'd like to set a rock hard 1 week deadline for posting a finished submission.  This ok with you Atnas?  I just dont want someone to miss out on entering the work they'd done just because they missed this on a given day.  Everyone, if you know someone who had been working on this, please contact them.

please make sure you post your skinned demo here by Tuesdaty the 27th of July 2010, or I'll there'll be no voting and I'll just send the 100 dollars to Atnas.

thanks,

Holymonkey

Heh. Would've loved to enter but I only just now see this entire thing so I'm late to the game to put it mildly.
Cool thing you've got there though.

Y'know what. Screw it, let's see what I can churn out in a night. It's not fun to have a competition with just one contestant.

What's the exact time? Tuesday evening 23:59 GMT? EST?

Edit: Nevermind. The first things I tried to edit didn't work. Replacing the laser images with empty images doesn't make it go away, it just makes the color go blue/green. Changing the size of the enemy sprite doesn't affect the size of the hitboxes. I won't be submitting anything.

I'm terribly sorry it didn't work properly for you snader. :(  Its odd that it worked perfecly fine for me and the other people makng skins as of about a year ago, but I just experimented with it to see if I could duplicate what you were talking about and for some reason it seems to now be much more sensative about the PNG's. (maybe a windows update since the time I had made it?)

I do know for a fact that the reason when you tried to replace an image with a blank image, it only seemed to change to the color was because it wasn't able to read your PNG at all ... as though it thought it was a completely fualty image file....which I'm sure it wasnt :(

Here's what I could figure out on my windows XP system.

1) If saving out and using indexed PNG files (from pro-motion in my case)<< it would only count pure black as transparent...even if another color was sent to transparnt, only black would be transparent in the demo. :(

2) The safest bet seems to be t save out 24 bit PNG's (even if you made it as indexed, just save it out as a 24 bit with transparency)  This worked well from my old version of phtoshop.  This also worked fine when replacing an imge with an empty image of the same name.

I'm really sorry you found this so late and that it now seems to be such a finicky program.  It really would have been great to have anothr entry and I hate dissapointing people.

I'll be calling the contest offically finished at midnight French-time (where I live)

Recieved! @ u @

Thanks Holymonkey for hosting this; doing this last year I learned from the opportunity of having moving elements scroll and animate within the context of one another, and it has helped me with my current work. <3
