Any tips for jazzing it up? Its utterly boring right now, but I can't think of anything.

well...
some colour would probably do the trick. maybe some roman themes
-
Agree on the Roman themes. Check some references for Roman architecture and copy the style for the UI elements.

Update!

Any more suggestions?

I think that looks great. Good work! If you wanted to push it further you could tweak the font too, but I like what you've got.

I love it, simple, uncluttered, doesn't take up very much attention from the important things. Only thing I might suggest is adding a bit of hue into those grays, maybe.

It might be to small to really go for this, but you might consider using a serif font. Serif lettering was invented and used by the Romans when they carved characters into stone. It would be a nice historical touch, however it might not look good at that size.

Here's a quick edit with some hue shifting in the greys, making them more bluish.

Thanks everyone
@McClaneGames: Thanks, that looks a ton better!
As for the font, I'm satisfied with it. It will only be used for titles like in the menu. The regular font will be Credit Valley I believe.

I agree lazily, quotingly

i like it.
But I still think it needs more color.
When I think of roman I think of gray red and gold... Maybe add a bit of gold.

Better?

I think you could go either way, really, but I really like your soft colors.
The pillars are so CLEAN and cold, it works but you might find you'd like a warmer dirtier look?
supermissing the gray checkers, bring them back!
