The arms and legs look a bit broken, partly jagged black edges and partly uneven outline. Specifically his right arm, and left leg.

Adding a crotch might help.

As for the feet, the way his right leg is rotated means his foot should be set slightly left of the viewer. Basically, his right leg is in an awkward position. His other foot would probably point downward a little as well, and not be completely straight on the ground since he's not completely at eye level (shirt curves down). Legs could afford to be lengthened a little.

update;

added a foot....
i kinda didn't do much more, cuz i suck at AA and didn't understand the rest.
r.r

also

i added a new character
i call him fred, because the name sounds like narwhal, which is my favorite animal.
i also suck at anatomy

so edits would be helpful

my first thought when entering this thread was

did i make sprites without realizing it
and them make a new account to post them on

because i wouldn't be surprised if i did

my generic standing perfectly still thing is there too
hmm

are you accusing me of stealing?

i like your work, and followed your style from these;

but I didn't steal anything.

haha no if i was accusing you of stealing i'd be a lot more direct about it

it's just
i literally thought i made those sprites and forgot about making them
but then i thought your name and went "oh ok"
Title: Re: ooohohoh that ravenous, ravenous rhino.
Post by: MadHatter on March 08, 2010, 02:14:12 am

well

it's kind of small and there's some things i'd do differently but yeah pretty much
Title: Re: ooohohoh that ravenous, ravenous rhino.
Post by: MadHatter on March 08, 2010, 02:24:18 am
small was on purpose

cuz i might animate

and i really dont want to animate something of that size.

do you mind telling me what you would do differently?

My thoughts would be adding a crotch, not to low but not to high either. Also for the feet, I'd say you could make it more facing forward like the big guy's back foot 1 up made. That's all I can see for now, if you could fix that I'll gladly critic a little more.

Sorry for posting after almost a month.

This.

Left leg is awkwardly posed.

Exactly what I was saying but it's always better with an image example.

I'm just here to put in a plug for descriptive or at least relevent post titles.  The trend towards pretentious/noninformative wordvomit is making the forum annoying and less navigable.  Im not looking to start an argument, only saying this once...I just thought it needed to be.

I agree. Misplaced wackiness.

And isn't this odd - Madhatter and 1up (1up was there first of course) have nearly the same pixel style and wacky forum posting style. Separated at birth? If you guys exchanged pics you may find you're identical twins. Or is Madhatter 1up's bipolar account?

As for the sprite, it's simple, just make him a limbless, hairless, faceless war veteran. In doing so you'll solve all difficult limb drawing problems, you'll establish interesting character background and even have an obvious choice as to what his overall attitude is like, which you can use to keep his interactions with other characters consistent.

I don't see how I post will affect the sprite, and as long as it isn't disrupting any members from doing what they came here for theres no need. I prefer to be a bit more "wacky" then most of you guys.
yer boring
Also
I'm not 1up
nor am I as good as him, TBH.

Not to be completely off-topic, but I sorta feel like there's something backwards here; the titles are highly engaging but the sprites actually tend to be dudes standing in a line.  Call me peculiar but I get excited when I see a post like "ravenous ravenous rhino" and get a little disappointed to just see a bunch of the same stuff again.  Like I said it's not really relevent to the sprites in this thread, but to me I'd be ten times more interested in a thread that was called something boring like "rhinocerous sprite [WIP]" and then had an energetic and 'whack'y image or a rhino.  The same is true for go go gadget happy heart - your titles have me imagining artwork that would actually be really exciting!

Too photo-real. Lost it's pixel charm. Looks like a redux.

redux?
How do you suggest it gets more pixel..ish? gets its pixel charm back?

haha, those lines are all only jagged and shit because it's WIP. I'll clean it up and all as I progress.

I got no critic because you didn't fix any of the errors. It still looks to photo-real, looks like a reduce polarize photo. I'm not saying it is, but it looks that way, which is no good.
Yo should simplify/smooth your pixel clusters.
As you see, it's the same critic Mathias and Ryumaru gave you.

I make this edit, maybe it'll help, or not:

You got too many useless skin colour, maybe you could reduce your palette or use some of the colours just for aa.
Before adding things to the portrait, try to finish some part.
The pose is correct, so there's no problem there.
It's very messy though, clean some lines, before a new update.

oh I thought they were referring to the WIP outline and such.
Thanks, I'll get to that soon.

There's a shadow missing under the nose (according to the shadows @ eyes) which without it makes the face look so chubby and volumic...
