Title: RPG Tree
Post by: Free Camera on February 28, 2010, 03:48:23 am
Meant for 16x16 tiles.  Hoping to get some C+C, particularly on the larger tree.  Not too messy is it?  Going for a saturated cartoony style.

You need some more volume on the trees.  Leaves and branches at the top of the tree cast shadows on the lowers ones and on the trunk.  The second tree looks kind of odd... maybe need to thin the trunk?

they look neat but small to me. Could you put a sprite next to them and indicate whether they are meant to decorate the cities or to build an elfic forest or whatever ?

Also, the black outline seems out of purpose at that scale, but that might just be a matter of taste.

the last two are my favorite. but they are seem to be kinda skimpy with leaves.

mmm this style is quite delicious imo, but your tree trunks are too large in comparison to the mass of leaves. either shorten the trunks, or add more foliage. also i have a thing against pure black outlines, i think it would look nicer with uber dark brown on the trunk/dark blue on the leaves, thats just my personal nitpicky preference tho. :]

Here's another picture with a character for comparison, along with a rounder version of the second tree and a couple of bushes.  I'm trying to keep the art compact enough so that I can get an old school rpg feel going when I put it all together. As for the pure black outlines, I'd usually agree, it's just the nature of the art I'm trying to covey.
