Inspiration hit me for a new game idea. This one is beautifully small, simple and effective, and will only take about a week to make. This makes it a perfect candidate for @McFunkypants (http://twitter.com/McFunkypants) one game a month challenge (http://www.onegameamonth.com/)! If you're looking for experience or a fun short project, I'm looking for you! If we enjoy working together, there will be opportunities for working on more projects throughout the year as well (including project ideas that you've always wanted to make). I'm a multi-talented programmer who can create anything from retro 2D games to next gen 3D games - you can check out some of my past game projects here: http://david.fancyfishgames.com/p/games.html (http://david.fancyfishgames.com/p/games.html), and a video from one of my graphics research projects here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TesgRpi9fhM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TesgRpi9fhM)
The game is a first person "horror" game. I put horror in quotes as it is more eerie than in your face scary, there are no enemies, and nothing jumps out at you, the scary part is more subtle than that. While the game is first person and 3D (and will be made in flash stage3D), no 3D modeling is required for this project, as it will be generated from maze-like walls and floors similar to older raycasting games (lands of lore, wolfenstein, etc). The art needed is for wall, ceiling, floor and object textures. These will work a lot like 2D tiles, and you will not be required to know anything about 3D.
While you might think wall textures are boring, I definitely want artists to make them interesting and eerie, and I am very flexible on the style. You can go as crazy as you like with the style, while keeping with an eerie and weird theme.
This is a hobbyist project for free, fun and experience, so I will not able to pay you.
If you're interested and want to know more, you can read a blog post about the project here: http://david.fancyfishgames.com/2012/12/one-game-month.html (http://david.fancyfishgames.com/2012/12/one-game-month.html), or contact me directly at davidmaletz@gmail.com

Sure, I'll try. It sounds fun :D

Cool - glad you're interested! Do you have a portfolio or previous work you can show me? And do you have any questions for me about the project? You can also contact me on:

Well I've never really done texture work on a 3D model before and this is probably the closest this I have to "recent"

That's totally fine, as I said in the description, you don't need to know texturing/uvmapping. Really what the game needs is a lot like what you have in that link - 2D tileable images that can be placed on walls, ceilings and floors in 3D - and I'll handle how to place and render them - so you'll get to draw pixel art, and see it in 3D.
I like those tilesets you posted, they even seem to have a kind of eerie feel like I'm looking for.

I set up a quick example in flash3D to show how this would work for those who are interested:
The artist needs to make 2D pixel art. For a quick example, I used some art from FirstSeed - it doesn't fit perfectly, but here it is:
Floor 1: (http://fancyfishgames.com/tmp/floor.png)
Floor 2: (http://fancyfishgames.com/tmp/floor2.png)
Wall: (http://fancyfishgames.com/tmp/wall2.png)
Ceiling: (http://fancyfishgames.com/tmp/ceiling.png)
Object: (http://fancyfishgames.com/tmp/object.png)
Note that alpha transparency is allowed. Then, all I have to do is place these images on some walls, add some lighting. With the above pixel art, I got the following:

So, even though it's 3D, it's a pretty simple setup! Let me know if you have other questions!

I have no questions. Just shoot me a PM of what you need and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for everyone's interest! I have found a pixel artist for the game, so feel free to close or remove this thread!
