A portrait I made of a buddies ffxiv toon for a discord icon. Going to make the full character soon.

His beard's a different color! And jarringly black! And nowhere near as detailed as the hair!
Try to avoid black when drawing unless you're trying to catch the eye with it, I tend to use dark red/blue/purple hues instead so it has a softer appearance! Try it here with the blue!

So I changed the beard color as you suggested and made it shape around his chin a bit better. I'm not sure what else I can do as far as detail as the beard is small and just kind of wraps around his chin on the actual character but I'm open to your suggestions. Thank you for your feed back!

Try adding some gradient to it, lighter around the edges and darker in middle!
(also, don't host on photobucket. Photobucket sucks. Imgur is far more reliable, as is anonkun!)

Third times a charm  Although I'm not sure if I made it better or worse. Who would have thought that the simplest part would also be the hardest. Anyhow I fixed a few other discrepancies around the eye patch as well as changing the black parts on the inside of his collar to a darker blue as well.

Post at original resolution, I've a day off Thursday so I'll toss up an edit of it to show what i mean better as a good warmup!

Alrighty, the originals a bit farther back but I guess that shouldn't matter too much. Don't mind the huge canvas as I intend to draw out the whole character and add a background.

There! What I ddi here was try and reduce the "straight line" effect going on with his beard there by breaking up the lines, thickening bits, and using the two shades to create a bit of texture on there. Beards like that are rarely very solid, so they break up as they finagle their way up the chin and cheeks!

Looks good! Crazy how breaking it up a little makes such a difference. Thanks for your help with this. I'll be posting the full Mord on here soon.
