magby is next
planning on making most of my favorite pokemon so this is gonna go on for a long time /heh/
-
No crits, just a question. How do you eliminate the look of the pixels? All the art I've seen you do here is pixel art but doesn't look like it which to me is amazing.
-
While I suspect that 1Up has his own answer, I can say for myself that taking away the pixelliness of a piece has all to do with 2 things : learning by eye, and never banding. Banding and jaggies (two parts of the same problem - banding is just jaggies over multiple colors) are the single largest giveaways to pixel art. How work work shadows around and over outlines and how to bleed over highlights to create the idea of an emergent (not delineated) form is something you learn with time and practice.
-
While I suspect that 1Up has his own answer
lol nop
i can't explain anything ever competently
also, small update
(http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/637/pokemonomg.png)
planning on finishing wooper and delibird, and getting lines for magby, aron, and weavile started by the end of the day
e:
fresh lines omg
they ruined my oven
-
i like how clean the shading is. it makes them look like pokemon
any inspiration for doing this?
-
1) play heart gold
2) get nostalgic
3) realize you havent finished pixelling anything in forever
!!!
e:
finished wooper btw
(http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/637/pokemonomg.png)
-
was there any profit involved?
going a bit offtopic here, but was heartgold good?
as for cnc i have none, other then maybe add some AA
also
the second guy looks as though he's like "dat ass"
no really
-
i never do anything for profit because i'm a lazy motherfucker with a short attention span
heart gold is amazing go get it
right now
do it
go
go
go

double post with an update
although its a small update(fixed the swirl on politoed, started delibird)
also i wanted to say this:
fuck delibird
fuck everything about delibird
-
if you want to do something challenging, try a legendary.
-
Love larvitar <3
The others look a bit too like pokemon sprites for my taste, you may like them that way, but i think they would be better fir they were in the same dynamic style as larvitar.

explain please
i dont get it
also just gonna quote a post real quick
(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/637/pokemonomg.png)
someone other than tyvon explain to me why making zangoose in this style is a good idea
the official art for those two is just there for general size reference
*****ALSO*****
forget my last post im doing those
pachisiru, luxio, and eevee after this
and maybe zangoose if i get convinced its a good idea i fucking hate him though
nevermind again
[7:55:45 PM] hunter: when i finish these if im not bored of the entire project
[7:55:49 PM] hunter: i will sprite zangoose
[7:55:59 PM] Kat: Corbin dallas mul-ti-pass
[7:56:05 PM] Tyvon "Alpha Six": oh so you mean never http://instantrimshot.com/
no but yeah ill seriously sprite zangoose after all of this
e:(http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/637/pokemonomg.png)
aron is done *poops*
-
I mean, a bit too like the clean, boring sprites from the games.
-
Perhaps give some of them skin textures. For example, feathers for the delibird. Nothing too cluttered, but something varied from the standard skin that all pokemon have.
-
ah, i can probably give that a shot later
(http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/637/pokemonomg.png)
this is the final list of pokemon im gonna do for this project
luxray is a tough motherfucker to sprite, and was fired as a result :donaldtrump:
also, borrowed toxicroak's pose from the official artwork there because i am lazy
e: and i got comments about it on tsr, so i'll mention it here before someone brings it up
shiny croagunk and toxicroak
not normal ones
that's why the palette is different
-
(http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/637/pokemonomg.png)
double post, but uh
pretty sure its been long enough to do this so
just kinda jumping between pokemon now
-
Lookin' noice. Fave is the top middle green thing (don't know jack about pokeymanz)
Top left froggy thing doesn't match set - not as reflective and has more detail, lacking the same "cell-shaded" style as rest.
Whoa I just noticed the biped killer rabbit freak . . . that's a pokeymanz?

all of them are pokemon, but not really sure what one you're talking about
weavile (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Weavile_(Pokémon))
zangoose (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Zangoose_(Pokémon))
pretty sure its one of those two though
e: also, i'll get to fixin larvitar eventually, i've been putting off trying to get it to fit in with the rest
-
@weavile; the arms look a bit too long, the pallet is too much on the blue side, and the 3 claws on each hand look like one giant one. other then that, good job. i like the shading.
@thatsmallrockthingwhosnameescapesme; i think you should add more contrast to the eye shading. maybe add a bit more of a shine or shimmer like you did with the other pokemon.
@delibird; i'm not sure if delibird has a shimmer like penguins or distinct feathers like other bird, but from reference pictures i'd go with penguin. one thing i would do is imply the effect of feathers.

literally fixed (or tried at least) these two right before i read this post

i have no idea how to do this

I think he means put that typical jaggedy anime hair shimmer/shiny highlight line (http://fc07.deviantart.net/images3/f/2005/147/9/8/colortutorial.png) on it's body to imply smooth shiny feathers.
If you wanted to prevent further confusion with which char is which, simply number them. Then people can just call out the number.
-
I have one thing to say and one thing only...
Weaviles pose looks uninspired and not dynamic(was that 2 things?) It's lacking in the action line department
Maybe something like this?
(http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/vashers/edit-1.gif)(sorry for the horrible edit)
-
e: oopy doopy, wrong image
(http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/637/pokemonomg.png)
couldnt figure out what was bugging me about weaviles pose
thanks for that
also crandios and toxicroak are pissing me off UGH
-
whale
you know how a penguin has feathers, but they appear to be smooth..although you could still see feather..
:V
so yeah what mathias said
-
(http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/637/pokemonomg.png)
new pose for weavile
larvitar probably fits in a bit more now, maybe not idk
tried some different shading for delibird's stomach
toxicroak still pisses me off
e: nevermind i think i got that bottom one
-
have you watched any refs lately? pretty sure this site helps you http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites.html (http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites.html)
EDIT: Why would he need to look at the game sprites when he's looking at the large art pieces of them?
Just to get more inspiration :) it's a good site and has every pokémon game sprites. Sry. about the post if it offended you, looking good 1up.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/the name of any pokemon ever_(Pokémon)
official art
sprites from every game they've ever been in ever
-
wow 1up you really released my inner geek last night  from that bubapedia I went to pokemondb, from that to digimon and from that to Ben10 somehow :p
BTW, http://pokemondb.net/gallery has the pokemon in much more accesible format
Weaville's pose looks very very awkward, you have his arms creating a very clear action line....but that's it...the rest of the body doesnt seem to follow it very well, the torso is sorta swayed that way but not enough...the tail hanging so low doesnt help either. The head also looks very very weird, it looks a bit flat, look at the pokemon sprites it seems to be pontier than that
http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2006/05/animation-school-lesson-5-line-of.html I hope this shows you what I mean....also, look at his pokemon sprites (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Weavile_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) the poses are better and the head is specially has much clearer volume
-
hmm
(http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8070/pokemonomgq.png)
i think i got it
?
-
Okay, how much of a pokemon fan am i to not recognize only two of those characters...?
Anyways!
I'm going to number them by appearance from left to right. Since names escape me as well. Except for zangoose and delibird. Zangoose's pose is perfect. Excellent normal type as well. Weevil's pose should be the extreme opposite of pokemon number 12. Right now he's not dynamic enough like the others have said.
When I make that pose, my head is a little farther down. My body is stretched back a little more, expecting attacks from below. The arm that is straight out, is just a little bit lower and bent a little too. Plus, I think it would help if you swap the leg poses. The forward leg should be forward for balance, the back leg bent for steadiness.
I have no clue what pokemon are numbers 2, 11, 12, 15, and 16 are. Not a clue.
(psst, yes, i have heartgold, and we get the phanphy this time, oh yes, we get the cute little phanphy. :))

holy help, batman!
weavile's pose has been bugging me since it got brought up and i couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with it until these last two posts about it, thanks guys!
and uh, to get rid of confusion i'll go ahead and do this:
1. larvitar
2. shiny croagunk
3. politoed
4. delibird
5. wooper
6. aron
7. magby
8. weavile
9. phanpy
10. castform
11. cranidos
12. shiny toxicroak
12. zangoose
13. eevee
14. luxio
15. pachirisu
e:
castform is garbage
-
Weevil's pose should be the exact of Cale's in the last panel here. That was the pose I had in mind. (Cale is the elf by the way.)
http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/341
Sorry if I was being a bit vague. I forgot to post a ref and didn't get to it earlier.
Thanks for the indentification chart!
-
well
unless there's any blatant problems with its current stance i dont want to change it
because i actually like this one
(http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/637/pokemonomg.png)
i may have made magby's torso too long
or something
he just looks stretched out in general right now, idk
-
For castform, his head and body are off. He head is tilted one way while the body is tilted the other. Normally it should look weird, but considering he doesn't have a neck it looks off. Also magby's head is shaded weird, I think there's just a sort of crown of bumps and the very top of the head is flat. Also yeah his torso is too long, as well as his arms.
-
right so
because magby and castform werent my idea to begin with (they're both horrible and i hate them)
drifloon and sheildon have taken their places
i think zangoose's /white/ fur might be a bit too saturated
-
Just make it a bit dirtier, like, more brown. Not much though.
-
2. shiny croagunk > 12. shiny toxicroak
There is an obvious difference in contrast there, mainly from the much darker black on the Toxicroak. Is this intended, because it doesn't seem right to me?
-
There is an obvious difference in contrast there
wwwwwwrong
they have the exact same palette for the blue(added and changed a few of the pink shades for toxicroak)
i just used the darker shade more often in the area behind/to the side of his head to add a more sinister feel that croagunk lacks regardless of how much contrast is there. i might have just messed up and make it look like there's more shades though so idk!!!
e: (http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/637/pokemonomg.png)
*blasts off into space using giant nose as rocket*
e2: not even gonna bother with zangoose again until i finish these two

Just because they use the same shade of blue doesn't mean they can't have different contrasts. You stated yourself you used more darker shades, and I already stated that the black on Toxicroak is way darker than the black shade used on Croagunk. Both of these end up making Croagunk feel like a different style, in my opinion.
-
He's talking about the black, not the blue, I believe. The black you used on Croagunk is a nice, dark grey, while the black used on Toxicroak is pure black. It doesn't look too pleasant.
Edit: guh, posted at the same time as me :I

oh welp
well i'll try to fix it
e:
fixed the bbcode quote mess up part of the post heh
heh
-
yeah ok, these are great but trying making your own pokemon.
your creative and all
also for aron i suggest adding one more shade to the black
-
yeah ok, these are great but trying making your own pokemon.
i tried to come up with a response that displays how stupid i think fakemon are without at the same time making it look like im mad at you but i couldnt think of anything
so have that instead
-
I still think Weavile's pose isnt any better...have you thought about what he's actually doing? what's that pose good for? the other guy who has a dramatic pose looks like he might jump in the opposite direction he's leaning, but Weavile's knees being bent like they are just seem like he's sort of slacking and striking his arms in a weird way.
Even i you insist on his pose...his head really needs to be redrawn it has no depth.
-
(http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/637/pokemonomg.png)
well!!!
i'll probably just go ahead and redo weavile completely, really just been backpedalling out of fixing him up because im tired of working on it
but yeah when i'm finished with zangoose i'll get to remaking weavile
and i think i fixed the croagunk/toxicroak problem
??
-
manchester orchestra is good /spritan/ music
(http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1931/pokemonomgj.png)
zangoose's stomach is all kinds of messed up right now
just now noticing this
heh
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What did you do to Weavile?? He was seriously my favorite one you did! His pose had life and he was ready to fight, now he's all like "HOWW"(that indian phrase in peter pan where they raise their hand like that)
Although if this is like the actual pokemon sprites perhaps Weavile should be looking at us. Maybe...
Oh and about Zangoose's new gray palette, to that I say nay! Nay I say! The blue looked much prettier.
-
[10:56:44 PM] /feeling/: http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/637/pokemonomg.png weavile can now move his claws wheeeee
[10:56:51 PM] Tyvon "Alpha Six": anata is fucking amazing know about it
[10:57:00 PM] Tyvon "Alpha Six": look at that weavile
[10:57:03 PM] Tyvon "Alpha Six": he just
[10:57:04 PM] Tyvon "Alpha Six": dont' give a fuck
[10:57:07 PM] /feeling/: heh
[10:57:19 PM] adam: arm still looks stiff
[10:57:40 PM] Blackface Bugs Bunny: well
[10:57:42 PM] Blackface Bugs Bunny: I'd hit it
and uh
i really have no idea how to respond to the first part of that post
so im just
yeah
(http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/637/pokemonomg.png)
there's the image if you dont feel like clicking the link from that convo
his middle claw isnt staying that way btw i just got kinda bored and decided that would help (it did)
-
Make Zangoose thinner and move his head a pixel or two to the left.
EDIT: Actually, I find Zangoose's pose to be really boring. It's just all... "sup"

Yay! Nice work, glad to see it finished!
