Just started on something and it turned out like this.

It looks very flat at the moment, so I'd go for something more round. I would also recommend increasing the contrast since it looks a bit washed out now. I think it would help if you sketched out the monster's general shape, then started thinking about shading it to show volume before you started polishing the features. It'll make it easier if you know what you're planning to draw from the beginning. :)
