yeah.... this is probably my 6th or 7th attempt at making this guy. none of them were in this style though.

Couple things:

1. Tip at back of beanie is odd.
2. Your pillowshading.
3. The angles of his feet are a bit odd for just standing.

Other than that, its pretty cool, but really fix the pillow shading.

Is this for a platformer? Because if not you might want to either lower the nearer to the viewer foot a pixel, or pull the other one up.

it's not for a game, but i wanted to practice platformer sprites because none of the sprites i do are standing like a platformer character would.

i might actually use this guy in a game. i'm just making him in different outfits, for practice. here's a scuba suit.

The pallette is too dark to really notice any difference in between the shades. The shading itself is basic and pillowed. Its also got some small legs.

i tried to remove the pillow shading.. should i just use that inbetween shade as an AAing color?

Brighten these sprites up a bit...no a lot. The details are completely lost, and the shades are way too close. Really, with shades that close, AA isn't really needed.
I don't see the pillowshading everyone is talking about. It looks like the lightsource is coming from the upper-right hand corner. In the scuba version, a blue tint over the facemask would make it more evident that he's wearing a mask. Or even just a white hilight.
Some hilights on both of them in general would be nice and bring out the form alot more.

These are nice, though. Keep up the good work.

Now your color between light and dark seems to be wasted.

a lot of palette editing, you need to work on color selection and stuff, but otherwise your design isn't bad, you are making progress here. Keep going, man! I lightness-varied your outlines and look how I used colors from different parts on different parts. You just need to make them a bit less primary and more together. I'm eager to see new versions from you!

yeah, my problem with my pieces is i never decide a pallete. i should probably start doing that. i'll try it with more re-usable colors and see what i come up with

Better already. Don't forget to elongate the far arm.

Next time try some hue-shifts(?) and show the creases in shading, not in the lineart.

i think i finished it... although i don't like how the body turned out, i don't do too well with folds. but i'm getting better at least.

1. Fixed the black outlines, and touched up some minor details.

2. Ignore the nose, I just was testing what it would look like and it turned out good.

the nose is already there. i use a line of shading to show it.... your edit kind of ruins it..

The small highlight line does not show the nose well, even if it is anime style. You could use a highlight instead of a shadow, but maybe try showing the top of the bridge of the nose if you want a nose in the picture. I thought you had overlooked it on purpose, so sorry for clashing with your creativity, but do like I said, ignore the nose I did, I was just giving you something to think about.

there is a higlight on there.... i should probably lighten it... but yeah, i'll try to add some more shadow to it

Yeah, a bit more contrast would help, but the highlight itself don't... how do I put it, it just doesn't say "nose".

Is he supposed to be missing the eye? Not sure on that one...

As for the nose, not really, now his face looks blotchy.

The shirt folds look strange.
There's not enough movement to cause that much fold.

Wow, this is much improved over the original.
I agree with souly about the shirt-folds, but since you say you're done with the edits, I'll just say you've done a great job improving this and I hope you learned alot from the crits. Keep up the good work.  :y: :y:
