How is this so far? The top of the walls are a bit lacking at the moment but not entirely sure what direction I want to go with it yet. What about the sand? any suggestions?

Looks more like mountains seen from a great distance (like a map) to me. Real sand at this scale doesn't throw small dunes/waves like that, especially not with such peaks.
Al,so, why are the details of the walls so blocky?

Walls need work still, unfinished. Need more ideas on how to proceed with them actually.
I thought the same as you about the dunes being too aggressive but I wanted to give it a bit of an alien feel, extreme conditions. The setting for the game is space so I figured it should be a bit different from earth.

Updated the tops of the walls.

I haven't drawn sand much myself, but here are some doodles as to how you could approach yours.
Also, the grid in your sand is rather obvious: The larger dunes are on the same height; there is a lighter streak right above the large dunes; and every dune ends at the edge of your tile, giving a good indication of where the edge is.

Thanks for the tips on the grid! I will see what I can do.
Honestly I like what you drew with the sand but want to avoid the typical earth-like sand that we seem in almost every video game and concept everywhere. I want people to know it is sand but give it a bit of an edgy, alien look. Maybe I need to tone mine down a bit but I don't want nearly that much open space or flat featureless terrain in the tiles.
