I think I'm gonna start working on some top down tiles for my game since i need the resources to work on it. Just wanted put em on here for some C+C. Does anyone see anything that would be missing from this kind of area or anything i could add?
btw don't pay attention to the boss lineart there I just put it there while i was making the tiles and forgot to get rid of it when photobucketing it.

Just as a quick crit, I would say the textures are a bit too fine for the size of the characters. Scale the grass and the leaves up a bit, if possible, and it will all blend much better.

yeah i see what you're saying. perhaps I could make some larger bushes and trees and mix em in with these?

btw im a bit stuck right here. which do you think looks better as ground?

The one on the right IMO. Your trees have huge trunks and few leaves.. everything else looks pretty good but your human sprites a little goofy looking.

I really like the characters, but the trees and cliff could use some work. The cliff needs some darker shades to add depth and make it look less like a dirt path, and the trees need to be shaded according to a lightsource; now the texture is on a totally flat cutout of a tree trunk shape. Add shadows on the sides for a depth/form fix.

heres a more up to date sheet.
yeah i get what your saying about the tree trunk ill try to fix it. that sheet was a bit old nonetheless i just started working on it again.

The tree and bush seem to have different light sources. The bush's appears to be higher up while the tree's looks like its over closer to the viewer.

think i fixed that and ive added to it as well.
heres a mockup with all the tiles together.
only problem im having right now is figuring out how to give the water more "depth" it kinda looks flat now. edits are welcome.

I think the trees look a little like cardboard cut-outs. Try and give the trunk some curvature so it looks like a 3D object. You've got light sources on characters and bushes, but other areas don't seem to have any.
For the water, I'd suggest adding a "ledge" to the top bits, to give it an impression of depth. Like this:

Thast's just a super quick edit, the colours you'd probably want to choose a little more carefully than those, but by giving the water that kind of "dip" it makes it a more tangible place for the water to be staying.
Hope that helps, you've got a good start here :)

yeah now i get it. thanks for the help and crit

Ooooh! Great stuff! Fantastic infact!
You're very good with texture. I'm quite impressed. The only thing I don't like is that you make your characters noses white. I know it's supposed to be shine, but it's too much. They can do without it completely.
And as for the two trees, I like the one on the right best. It has a unique style.
Also, I think it's cute that you made yourself as one of the characters. hehe :)
