Title: The Lovers [WIP]

I have honestly no idea where I'm going with this, other than I'm trying to get a late afternoon sort of feel. Obviously, the background is very WIP... I just want to get the woman good before I move onto anything else.

Are her face/hair readable? I was going for a Marie Antoinette style with the hair.

I especially need help with her dress. I've not a clue how to shade fabric well  :P

Thanks so much!

Hey Hydronium,

So far I really like this piece. I think the color choices so far are good, and the composition could be good. I'd need to see it more finalized before I can say that though.

I only really edited her face. The nose is not readable, and looks like there is just a hole in her face. It can be fixed in like 5 seconds and a few pixels though. I added a highlight to the nose, too. I took a pixel off her cheek, and added midtones to the ear. Her chin seems too small, I moved it forward a bit and enlarged it.

Sorry I couldn't help with the dress.

One final thing, I think the piece will be much different depending on whether the guy is looking at the girl, or is looking at what she is looking at (the sunset?). So think about what it is you want.

The light source is a tad confusing. I think it's just that shadow near on her left (our right) hip that's causing the problem.

Hell, I'll worry about her skirt later. I fiddled a bit with her nose - not much, though. Started the guy... I can't seem to get the style I used for the woman on him. He looks creepily childish. Is it the hair? The eye?

And the color count is edging up there. I'll fiddle with that.

I'm no anatomy expert, but the guy might look a little "childish" due to his thin neck. Also his lack of visible eye makes him a tad creepy, yeah.  :D

I like the guy's eye the way it is, personally. Makes him seem focused on the woman :P

I think he looks childish because his heads a lot larger than the womans, they look the same size but most of the womans is her hair.

Also, I think the lack of eyes make him look distance, it looks cool but i doubt its what you were going for.

Thanks so much for the crits, they've been really helpful. But darn, I'm a slow pixeller.

He still has a big baby head and he's still all dark and broody and the color count is still dangerously inflating.

Comments? Critique? Hopes, dreams, fears?

Wao, I think the guys's pretty well done.

The lady might need some adjustment. Her eye is too big in comparison to the guy. She looks like she came out of an anime at the moment.

I just wanted to say this is looking nice, but the female's facial deformation is jarring given the serious depiction of the male. I made a somewhat pointless edit to show an alternative possibility:

I just wanted to point out something I noticed when I first saw this. The woman is looking away, and while that is dramatic, I think you would have more of a dramatic impact if she was looking at him, or they were both looking down, with foreheads touching or something, and in the distance was something awesome, something so awesome, that she would rather be close to her man, than look at it. and vice versa. Just a suggestion though, keep up the good work :)

I agree with dogmeat. Right now she kind of looks like she wants to leave the guy...probably not what you were looking for.

That was actually what I was going for in the beginning  :P I even had her shoulders turned away from him, but I figured it might unify it more if her body was turned toward him.

But after flipping her horizontally, I do agree that it has much more dramatic impact when she's looking at him.

I think the piece is more interesting with the girl looking away. Perhaps seeing another lovers in bliss piece just bores me, but with her looking away it adds another level of interest. Tgis is what I was talking about in my original post.

I edited the woman's chin a little so she didn't look so deformed, edited the man's legs, and added in a bouquet.

That damn thing is driving me crazy; I feel the hand gets lost inside of it and isn't very readable. The man also needs a hand.

I decided to keep her looking away from him; not because it looks better but because I'm lazy as hell.
