I'm just testing the waters to see how popular of an idea this might be. Feel free to leave your comments. I wasn't thinking anything fancy, just a sweet and simple gathering.
-
Yes, but only if your San Francisco meet is in Melbourne... :(
-
Would if I could.
-
I'd totally go, i love San Francisco. Unfortunately I live on the other side of the continent. I really would like to go though. :-X
-
Yes, I second the San Francisco Meetup being in Melbourne ;P
Unless someone wants to pay for my flight ;D
-
ahhhh so far so want to gooooo D :
Perhaps two meetups, one on each coast? Could keep set up a video stream from each end, all that good stuff.
-
San Francisco...sounds quite far from Europe :P
I hope we'll get some photos at least =)
-
I'd totally be down for an east-coast meetup, there's a bunch of us right here in New York that I know of.
-
I think I'd be able to arrange a European meeting in Belgium or The Netherlands. Plenty of Dutch people in our community.

There are many finnish people too :) Only the place seems to be a problem to everyone but if you can make that meetup you gotta post some photoes in here like fil_razorback said.
-
How about something in NYC? :)
-
I do know there is great potential for a NYC meetup. I can name like 6 pixelation folk right off the top of my head over there. if you guys would like to organize a simultaneous event, that'd be pretty cool... or maybe I could just fly down there and forget this san fran idea :P
I changed and reset the poll to get a better idea of where we're at. Revote, guys.
-
Aw, still no Melbourne. Is there a tool around here somewhere that shows where most of us are from country wise? Might be easier to work things out that way. For all we know, 70% of members might be in Toledo.
-
Pixel Joint map (http://pixeljoint.com/pixels/map.asp) - Yes, I know this isn't Pixel Joint :P but I'm pretty sure most people here have a PJ account anyway.
(Also, the map tells me that there's only 1 person from Toledo. Heh.)
-
Golly. There are hundreds of Aussies. Thousands of Americans, sure, but hundreds of aussies. 103 of us in Melbourne, even. :D
Maybe the most success might be had if one was done in the UK - smallest region to travel in with biggest number of people (7k), vs California with only 1k.
-
This American-European polarization would clearly call for two seperate meetup groups. But, based on the small number of votes, I'd say the idea may be a non-starter.
-
I am near San Francisco and can't travel far because of work, so for me its SF or bust :y:
-
I could perhaps attend a european meet, we could have some live pixelling and critique and stuff. Also, blood sacrifice to the lords below.
-
Well, we have a handful of pixel artists in The Netherlands, some from France (Fil_razorback?). And then there's the Germans (Ptoing, Dennis Busch), Austrians (Miascugh), etc.
We could have a cool meetup somewhere in that neighbourhood. I can host one in Brussels (or rather 20 minutes from Brussels), as I'm involved in a local youth pub here. I can easily book it for a day or even two.
If someone else has a better location, I'm open for it of course.

Youth pub?
Drinking for kids?
-
Oh, no, that's not what it's like at all. It's actually a club in the weekend, but it caters to an audience from 16 to 30. Club nights last till 6 am in the morning and we have a strong liquor license. Belgium does have legal drinking at the age of 16, so yeah, kids drinking is part of the experience.
It's usually empty except for saturday club nights, there won't be any patrons when I rent it, just us. It would be feasible if we can get at least 10 to 15 people together. Just throwing the idea out there.
-
some from France (Fil_razorback?)
Yup, I'm from Paris (and I'm moving to Nantes in September).
I'm glad to say a meeting in Brussels is within my reach =)
-
I'm down with New York.
Yes, I live in Sweden.
Can't afford it right now but make it a habit and I'll show up eventually!
Also european meet-up - of course I'm interested!
-
This is great... I was checking the pixeljoint map though, it has a lot of people from NYC and Jersey... if I were to go on a meeting lol, it would deffinitely be in NYC. The lower east side, in a cafe or something. :y:
I'm over 21 so that's fine if you guys wanna make it in a pub or something haha.
-
Maryland here, though I don't think I'd be able to meet-up even if it was in DC.
-
I confirmed the possibility of the location. I also confirmed cheap (€30 / night) hotel rooms, though those willing can sleep in the pub for free (no beds though).
So, if we're serious about this, I can play host, no problem.
-
Other location. A trip to U.S.A. would prolly cost me two monthly wages, and that's a bit too much for me to afford. :/ The Netherlands sounds fun, though -- never been there!
Also, UK seems reasonable.
-
What about Belgium? My location is basically Brussels. This would be easier for French people, as they wouldn't have to travel so far. UK seems reasonable for me too, if someone else wishes to host.
-
Hah, I'm obviously interested in a European meeting. Especially in Holland would be great of course.
Also since I obviously know my way around here. Especially in Utrecht. [It's much nicer than Amsterdam, really :D]
Though I'm fine with Brussels aswell.
-
Belgium is fine by me, too. It only depends on WHEN and HOW MUCH. :D
As for now I can't tell whether I'll be able to afford it.
-
I'd also be fine with Brussels. I know the city a bit so I think it would be nice to meet, say, on the Grand Place, and then go to the Delirium Tremens Cafe, that has 1000 different beers on it's menu. We could hold a printout of the Pixelation logo on top of the forum for recognition.
-
It depends on what we're going to do. If we plan just a cozy meetup, a little visit to Brussels would be fun. I also have cheap a cheap hotel available about 20 minutes from Brussels and the youth pub if there's members interested in bringing in computers and showcasing/reviewing art.
So, some questions:
Will we try and organize two/three meetups simultaneously in different parts of the world?
What are the plans? Just go to a city/bar or do something more than that?
