Title: looking for help
Post by: circuscommando on July 29, 2009, 03:11:57 am
hey there peops!  well, i googled and looked around some, but i couldn't exactly find a nice tree tutorial  i found  this  (http://www.vbgore.com/Pixel_Art_Tutorials) but i didn't care much for the style presented, it seemed a tad messy.  something closer to  this  (http://media.photobucket.com/image/tree%20sprite/Ricoman2000/Floatingtreecharsetcopy.png) is ideal (without the floating base.

i was wondering if anyone had an easy step by step tutorial on spriting trees/foliage, anything such as light sources, general shape color limitations, palette. this would be much appreciated, as i really don't entirely know where to start.

this is my attempt, i'm not satisfied with it frankly.

thank you for your time!

Here's some possible ways to tackle the problem. Remember that trees are organic and erratic.

I don't have anything to say myself, I'm really in the same position you are when it comes to trees.

But, I could point you to some a very helpful and interesting threads...

EDIT- Thanks, Gil. I was searching for that, to post it, for a while. Maybe I should save it.

thanks! these are quite helpful, but what i'm looking for is not exactly WIPS, so to speak, but techniques used, the thread Dr. D gave was helpful.  Gil's image provided different types of trees, but i wouldn't know how to go about starting anything like that.  Thanks anyhow guys, when i find the time, i'll restart a tree (until then, this shall be bookmarked.   :)

I've searched long and hard and have found nothing of the sort, unfortunately. The closest there is to one now (that I know of) is St0ven's post in my old thread Dr D linked to. My thread isn't 'dead' as such, I've just been working on other things slightly less insanely difficult...

The only other one I know of is one no longer available, by a chap called 'East'. He demonstrated copying and pasting a bunch of leaves as foliage and then shading appropriately.

There are, however, tutorials on drawing non-pixel trees, which are somewhat helpful.

If you find anything else, please let us know. :)
