Title: Crux+scraps (now pixel dump thread)
Post by: Cure on May 12, 2007, 07:55:48 am
I'll get to that kraken in the future, I have no work ethic.  Blah.  Until then, anatomy help?
still really rough, just figured I'd see if anyone had some anatomy fixes before I took it further.

And random scraps:

1.  Low color, geometric lookin' experiment.

2.  Random spaceman made out of boredom.

3.  15x19 pieces, nothing special.

4.   Nervous salesman.  More boredom.

5.   Made for a chemistry presentation.

6.   Crabs using  alternate palettes.  And some pokemonesque creature pixelled after a friend drew a random shape during class and I transformed it.

7.   Greyscale piece made back when I was in graphic design.

8.   Face made with the mspaint default palette.

9.   Spongebob characters, might incorporate them in a scene later.

10. Mini-kraken made to be used as a secret emoticon on LoBD.

11. Face, continued boredom.

The crucifiction peice is looking really neat. The head, to me looks a little large and the leg to our right, seems a little thin comparied to the other. I like the random peices, especially 1,4, and 5.

one concern about the crucifi(x)ion is that he feels more like he is leaping than hanging; some weight would go a long way for that.  head is also large.  the rest (as rough as it is) looks good so far, wont have any other crits until some specifics show up

Wow, you really are getting quite good.  I like number one, but why on earth did you use that one curved line?
The Spongebob sprites are also very well done.
And nice job on the MS Paint default face thingy.

Fak:  Thnx.  I was playing around with #1, when I do finish it, I'll lose the curve.
Adarias:  Good point, I'll try to do that.
Malor:  I do believe you're correct about that leg.

Whaa? They're bright brown with pink cheeks!

Your stuff is frigging awesome Cure, the style, technique, colours, composition tis all pro. Most of the time at least.. You shouldn't smoke though, or you'll get trapped in a volcano, lose your hair and turn green  :-*

With the crucifix thing, i think his legs are too small. I have a thing with drawing big legs, but i do think his are a little too on the small side.

Wh00t Wh00t.

Only crit is the beard on the sailor still looks phoned in to me, compared to the meticulous detail in his and the other char's faces.  Awesome stuff, really fun and stylish, good progress!

Cure, I absolutely love the color choice on the first piece under MORE SCRAPSSSS--straight up RGB  :y:

I think all of your stuff is pretty good...the only real general critique I can point out is that it seems like you don't go all-the-way with your pieces; you get right next to done and stop, it seems.  A bit of refinement here and there, an all of these would be extremely amazing.

But good nonetheless.  Can't wait to see some more stuff.

Very nice work.  :)

With the green guy, I'm having trouble reading the form on the left (our right) nostril, it has a different lightsource to everything else.

That said, I think you should try drawing different kinds of noses, I got into the habit of always drawing similar noses and it was a hard habit to break. :yell:

What's with the red noses?  :P

Presley:  Good point about the nose, I seem to have overlooked that.
Rydin:  Yes, especially as of late, finishing stuff is a huge problem of mine.

Crucifiction update:

Random crocodile:

I'll be changing the tennis racket.  Couldn't think of anything to put in his hand.  Maybe a net or a revolver?

Jesus' abs look too defined to me.  Otherwise, I like it so far.

Great job on the croc.  Perhaps a butterfly net?
Title: Re: Crucifiction+ scraps
Post by: AdamAtomic on May 17, 2007, 07:34:49 pm
The croc is GREAT!  Excellent job - I think a butterfly net or an elephant gun would both look great.
Title: Re: Crucifiction+ scraps
Post by: Cure on May 17, 2007, 07:40:00 pm
Butterfly net was my original idea that I was too lazy to go through with at the time.  And, incidentally, I thought a gun of that sort also might work.  Great minds.  I'll mess around with it and see what works.

Fak:  Yeah, you're probably right, I'll tone them done for the next update.

No. Don't mess with Jesus. Add onto him. In fact, try to make him unbelievably amazing! Add a halo above his head. Not just a ring, but a golden sphere like you would see in murals. Make him incredibly ripped, with abs and pecks bulging out of his torso.

Amazing work. I admire you.

Long overdue update to Jesus.

And I don't think I ever posted the finish croc, either.

Nevermind the background, just thrown together for the hell of it.  In fact, this version is a lame play on words version.

Maybe I did post the final here.  Not sure.  Been in my PJ gallery for a while, anyway.

Jesus needs either a little cloth on a certain place, or he needs a penis.

Seriously, going with it in this manner is just looking creepy.

I mean, he even has nipples :O

Oh, and so that I don't forget to tell you: Looking good!

I'd say something about giving Jesus more vibrant skin tones, but then I think he was kind of pale while on that cross :\

Of course, on the flipside, Jesus was a middle-eastern Jew, so he definitely wasn't white...
Title: Re: Crucifiction+ scraps
Post by: Cure on October 17, 2007, 05:45:06 pm
Jad: Yeah, I plan to give his a cloth before it's finished.  The hermaphrodite Jesus will not make the final cut.

Adam:  You mean an Anglo-Saxon with light brown/blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, right?

Any crits are more than welcome, especially anatomy (discluding the crotch : P)

Jews, Arabs, Egyptians.....they are all white.....

theres still a bonelessness un the arms; even pulled arms do not become straight

Love your scraps. Really love your scraps. And Jesus.

My only critique (and I'm so new to this that it may be dismissable) is that the beams on the cross look a bit thick/deep. And the connection between the beams shows no signs of joinery.

Love the word play on Croc/Croquet; and the pic.  ;D

I love that crocodile. Especially the palette. :D

I think the biggest problem is how flat Jesus looks. To make things look cylindrical, you should use darker shades towards the edges. The shoulder looks a bit odd anatomically, and the arm doesn't bend the way it should. The fingers look a bit awkwardly placed at the moment, too. Hope this edit will give you some ideas. :)

Edit: I think I'd also tone down the wood texture a bit.

Heh, looks like Arachne beat me to the punch while I was in mid edit frenzy. It's a quicky, but I'm sure you'll get it. Obviously the Y shape you got going on with Jesus is a little too...well, Y shaped. When the arms are raised like this, the shoulders tend to bump out. Also, Jesus always seems emaciated in all those necklaces, so why stop now, ya know? The abdomen was too clean for my taste, and needed some livening up.(I'm sure during all his time spent with saving the lepers, he wasn't doing his 200 crunches a day.) Also, the hips should be slightly leaning due to how his feet are positioned, in my opinion. There's a lot more to be said, but most of it is just anatomy type issues(not that this edit exemplifies it's perfection.). I wouldn't focus on the coloring skills of mine either, as I said this was a quicky to show the simple issues.(didn't finish the leg edit)

Hope this helps! :)

I love you both.  Both edits will help immensely, thanks.  And don't think your previous dragon edit will go to waste, Arachne, it will also be completed.

why is the ceiling so high? bring it down and you'll be able to call it done

i dont think the ceiling is too high... I think the doors and windows are too short, which gives that illusion.

If he stood up he would probably be taller than the door.

good point, measured against that guy's head the wall is only about 6-7 feet high, and the desk is knee-level.

that being said, i don't like the high walls or the character, and i do like the furniture.  I think the character needs to be removed/resized and the ceiling dropped.  this is less disruptive too than enlarging every furniture piece especially when they are the better-drawn elements.

My attention span is awful, anything other than small or simple pixels eventually is forgotten for a loooong time.
That being said, I actually finished something:

Little characters keep me entertained long enough to complete.  Suggestions/crits/comments?

Unfortunately i have no serious crits, but i wanted to tell you how much i love these designs cure. They're wonderfully cute and interesting, and look awesome as a group.
Ok i can't resist looking at one closer; the squid, top right, one of my faves. The front of his face, between the eyes seems abnormally flat. Also his far arm seems too close, when you look at where the eyes are placed and how long his closer arm is. Also the 'legs' don't attach to the body very well imo. Light on belly also looks strange as it isn't centred on it's face like the lightspots above it's eyes. Heheh... KUTGW.

I agree with Larwick that the little monsters are both cute and awesome! But the right hands on some of them seem to be too far to the right. Judging from the angle it looks like they'd be more to the left.

And I see what you mean, Ixis.  I think most all of them suffer from that problem.
