Edit by Pep: Hey everyone, I'm sanctioning this contest. We're currently in the activity downtime that goes along with the election of new officials, so this should be fun. Good luck to all who enter!

nobody here take part in my activity, i'm so disappointed.
i'm a Chinese, also comes from asian, nice to meet u.
I think the "TBD" means "not sure". :P
-
TBD probably stands for "To Be Declared". Or "To Be Determined". Or something along those lines.
I like the transformers that have been posted, especially the taxi one. I may try my hand at one of these, but I'm not promising anything. I look forward to seeing more!
-
I'll participate! Just give me a bit. God I'm such a newb... :-\
-
Ill participate aswell. If I can pull myself away from Burnout Legends for an extended period of time. Also Ro83rt don't call yourself a noob, dont even think of yourself as those losers who kill teamates in CTF, your better than them. I mean your here arnt you?

calm down ya crazy bastard, I doubt 80% of the people on this forum have the animating knowledge and technique to do a transformer that they would be willing to post on here and not be ashamed. Animating is the hardest thing to do with pixel art, have some patience.

For those of you having trouble with this activity here's a little tip. Try to design your robots using blocks in separate layers, like the taxi cab. All that guy had do with his when transforming it, is move his pieces around, which makes the whole process a lot more manageable if you aren't experienced in animation. Try doing somthing simple like a box for starters.
Also, I don't see a rule for it anywhere, so don't think that your submission has to be in ISO perspective. ISO is much harder for making animations because of the extra dimension it adds as well as the matter of keeping the perspective clean.

this sounds like a very cool contest if not challenge. I'll try something in the next week or so.
Loving Refridgeron! PBF rocks my world!
-
Phew.. entry Number 2. If I do this again, I'm going with somthing MUCH simpler with less frames.
Here's Boximus Prime: Protecting Refridgerator boxes from the threat of hobo invasion.

Crab, I must say: Boximus Prime is awesome. The only nitpick I have is that the pause on the corner when rolling for the first time seems a bit too long to me. Other than that, I love it. If I were a hobo, I would be scared of that robot :-P

Thanks for comments, guys. I'll update the first pause on the roll in a day or two.

I've always had trouble doing animations.
Not because I'm that bad with them,
but I have a slight problem;
I don't have a program that can loop animation,
nor can it make animations transparent,
nor do I have money.
Suggestions?
If I have such a program,
I'll probably join!
-
There's a thread with all sorts of tools in the general forum, it's stickied...
I advice GraphicsGale...
-
i realy suck at animations but il give this a go just for the fun of it.

I second, but if you use FreeEdition, be prepared try and find alternative ways to assemble the animation.

I have to agree. By the way, are there any pixelling animating tutorials? Or studies? Anything on pixel animation at all? I have been unsuccessful looking for them, and so far, any knowledge on animation I have is through common sense or experimentation.
-
The tutorial by tsugumo has a nice intro into animation... It's in the tool thread
-
Camus also posted in the Tools & tutorials posted an animation program that he used to use, which he indicated was a decent animation program.
I don't know of any pixel animation tutorials, but googling for the principles of animation should yield some helpful sites.
-
And if you really want to learn animation in depth, I have an e-book copy of "Richard William's The Animator's Survival Guide."
He worked for Disney and did a lot of their early animation. If you're interested, feel free to PM me.
-
It's the Animator's Survival Kit, not guide, and I recall Williams worked for Warner Bros, not Disney (He did "Who framed roger rabbit" I believe)
-
Nice entries. It's too bad there were not more participants. I was overwhelmed and didn't have much time for this.
Is the contest over? Is there a winner?
