I'm thinking about what ground tiles would be like too. Here's a small mockup of what I had in mind. I'd like your critique on this.

I like it.

The kid is probably moving too much.
I was going to suggest subpixel animation (like my avatar) but after trying to actually do it... I'm not so sure.

Mine are clearly pretty bad, I'm just posting this because I wasted a lot of time on it. I'll crit your tiles later, though.

Thank you very much. The ground tiles have absolutely no shading yet. But it shows the idea. I'm actually thinking if the dark shade of brown should be greater in the tileset. I'm also going to work on a running animation. I'm thinking whether 8-frame running animation or 6-frame?

I don't really know HOW to do subpixel animation. I've never tried it.

I really like these, they show a lot of character!

Only thing I can really say is the same as 7321551, kid's moving a bit much. Mostly though, it's just the shading on his face and ear that's bothering me- his hair doesn't seem to move around nearly enough to cast that much shadow. If you made the shift more subtle (or removed it altogether), I think it would look a lot cleaner. Just my thoughts though. Whatever you do, please continue.  :)

Thanks here's the current WIP of my mockup.

I was going to make a manly moustache the save point, But then I thought, I should make it more manly by giving it a red swimsuit and making it flex in different poses when you save.

I'm not sure if I should push through with it yet because I have no idea how I will animate him. I'm also making a Samurai Fish enemy. I wonder if it's a good idea. :P Because I don't want the game to be weird-looking. It's supposed to be manly, but I think it came out weird.

EDIT: I added a new guy

Can anybody please help with tiles?  ???

Also, I can't decide which is better. The first one looks like it's gonna explode though. I guess that's pretty cool.

EDIT: I added a coffee giving robot.

I think his expression is like: "I don't care about the princess, i wanna sleep!!". Maybe making his eyes bigger or like the 1 sprite...

Your decision :)

I think his expression is more "determined" than "I don't give a shit."

His legs are a little hard to read and maybe a bit noisy.

Just my small nitpicks.

1. A foot looks like it's turned backwards in one frame of the run, not sure where.
2. Also, it looks like he's trying to hold his hands together. Maybe make them more apart?
3. I actually thought that one of the legs didn't move. Then I was like, 'oh, it's a gun!'. Maybe have him hold it somehow?

Just some small minor nitpicks. Otherwise, really good. Rock tiles look good by the way. As a quick way to turn those into grass, just overlap your grass tile with it. You could also break up the rocks into smaller bits if that's what your going for on grass.

I like the slower slime animation. The fast one is too jerky in my opinion. I definitly like the hair piece. Really nice!

Thanks guys.

Now I added the hammer guy and fixed the run. However, the hammer guy seems to have lost his personality. Anyone know how to fix that?

Is he a bad boy?? If so, maybe he expression could change.

Better palette?

I definitely like this new expression better.
However, I think the new palette is a little too much saturated. The old one was easier on the eye.
Maybe you could try something in the middle of the two palettes?

D;! don't flip your tiles sets! and the enemies could also use a revamp as the sprites ;D. apart from that I love how the main guy looks like his expression mostly.

How would you wish me to do those down tiles then? :) I'm just missing the slime and robot.

Added a possible boss.

I like the simplicity of the colors. I think you should give one of them at least a smirk though. To add more interesting variety in characters instead of all of them being all serious.

Ah, much better! I was going to say something about losing the charm of the older versions, but I think with your current set they've been redeemed. Keep it up, I'd love to see this go somewhere! :y:

Got it! the strain of hair near the ear is darker for a frame  ;D
