The puzzle consists of 8x8 pixel puzzle pieces.
When you think you've solved it, post it here.
If you want to add a new puzzle, you must first solve a puzzle.
If all puzzles are solved, anyone can post a new one.
anybody posting new puzzles without solving one will have their post removed(unless all are solved).
-
holy shit this is hard...possible to give something out to get us started? maybe of what it is?

holy shit this is hard...possible to give something out to get us started? maybe of what it is?
Maybe hard for you, but the challenge is more fun without clues. I'm already half way done.
-
Nah not that hard, 25 minutes ot something :B
Good fun, neat idea for an activity I have to say.

working on one

:\

Ptoing = Killer of Joy.
This stupid thing was driving me crazy. I just opened it up at work, and tried separating each cube with graphicgale's hard ass selection tool( the free version...not good, no eraser, no fun)...Maybe the next one will be up soon. I need something to kill time while I'm at work.
-
lol ouch...I was way off. nice work
-
I invested 5 minutes of my time into programming a little applet to blow up everything 4 times and seperate it into blocks for dragabilty. :P
Is that cheating?
-
I'm liking the recent upsurge in activities and challenges. :)
Someone should do a massive one. :-X
-
Wow, this sounds pretty neat. I'm pretty good at puzzles, methinks. Well, we shall have to see. :-\
Btw, are any of the tiles rotated? Cus that would be solid. :ouch:
-
Here you go.
I think this one is prolly easier than the one Alex made.
Nothing in Alex's was rotated and neither is anything in mine, I think that would be too hard. Lets keep this fun.
-
Man, this is a bitch. At least I know what it is now - just have to get the pieces to fit.
-
Oh god, I'm retarded.
I was so confused, it seemed like there were pieces missing, and then I realized that I had forgotten to turn 8 layers of Photoshop back on.
I'll pass the next puzzle onto whoever would like to do it - I don't want to keep people waiting, and it'd take me awhile.
-
nice one ptoing, I'll have a go at yours..
-
(http://imagehost.ensellitis.com/imagesv2/3787524547uhm.png)
uhm????
someone else can make the next one if it's right
-
i fucking hate you all. :\ I'm slow to catch on.
I'll try to make one, if no one else has anything they are dying to post?
nevermind, too much work to do. :\
-
dammit, i screwed something up, didn't i. :'(
unless ptoing made an edit or something after i started,.. oh well
-
I see this:
Didn't see that Akzidenz modified his post. Good thing, as I don't have time to make anything. Woohoo!
-
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y6/Larwick/PTOINGPUZZLEFAILURE.gif)
Lmao, i totally messed that up. Was thinking along the lines of xmen cyclops :n:
Was pretty fun, that.
-
Nevermind, i suck ass. that so looked like a nostril. too bad the rest of the mouth made no sense.
-
I got strep throat so i wasn't going to class today. Decided to take a crack at it since the others decided to leave it up to whomever.
I'm a mediocre artist, but this thread should stay alive.

Kooloolim-pa!
I'm gonna give it a shot.

Something went wrong...
My try. (http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/690/wtfts4.gif)

Ah, but you're close.
-
Oeh, then I was wrong! But those circles, the colours, I could've sworn this was Tingle!

Some parts still look a bit strange though. (http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/5543/tryiu2.gif)

Due to my lack of ability, not to your puzzle solving.

oops, forgot to fix that... way to kick me when im down :P
-
Does anyone know of any program that automatically scrambles a picture?
EDIT: Here's a new one for you. Don't expect it to unveil something amazing but at least I did one. Thanks to Stwelin for scrambling it for me.
-
I wrote my own... If you wanna PM me the picture i will gladly scramble it for you, i'm gonna sit the next one out anyway. Have to go to bed. so sick. T.T
EDIT:

Also, my color count got reduced in your solution. :mean: lol.

Stuck.
-
I don't give a flying fuck if the top bit is correct, because it is baaaad puzzlemaking, the top 2 rows are really really arbitrary and ambivalent. The rest is nice tho.
-
lol yeah, same here:
-
Edit: Oops. I made one, but I didn't ask if one of you three wanted a go instead (since it's basically been solved).
-
if all have been solved, pretty much anyone can post a new one.. but if there is one which isn't solved, its recommended it get solved first.
-
Lawrence: The one you made is driving me nuts. :P
-
I dont care, go ahead. once you post one (or whoever) I'll have to wait until I solve another to make my own correct? or since all three of us basically solved the turtle can we all post one?
-

You're right. I realized at the same second I saw the scrambled version that it was going to be impossible to solve the top part. Sorry about that. Hopefully everyone learns from my mistake so we won't have to see that again. And for the record, here's the unscrambled version:
-

if you solved at least one, then you can post one anytime.
I just don't want people making tons without solving any and then having a bunch of unsolved puzzles.
but maybe that wouldn't be a problem?
-
I don't think that'd be a problem.. I'm sure there'd be at least a few people taking a crack at each one.
-
Lawrence: The one you made is driving me nuts. :P
Hehehe. Sorry ptepid, I feel so cruel now. You should stop working on it, if you know what I mean ;) (I took it down for a reason) Teehee
-
Lawrence, can i have the pic that's in play?
-
I think somebody should make a new one. Trust me, you don't want to do my one. ;)
-
This really is a great idea, but I'm much too stupid to participate.
-
I think somebody should make a new one. Trust me, you don't want to do my one. ;)
I'll cook up something, but I'm feeling pretty sadistic right now. You might not like me anymore.
-
In anycase, Lawrence's one was unsolvable, a hoax. That is why he removed it and correctly so. If I spot anyone posting hoax images that are unsolvable I will personally ban him for 3 month. Because it is not funny and spoils the fun. Spoil the fun and get your fun spoiled!
Keep it up, this is really a fun activity.
-
Yeah, I messed with Lawrence's for a while but gave up after about half an hour. I already had more important things I should have been doing, but working on an unsolvable puzzle is a complete waste of time. Thanks a lot, jerk face. >:P~
-
Yeah, I thought yours might be unsolvable. I just didn't believe it, seems a terribly vindictive thing to do. :P
Anyhow, seeing as no-one is posting a new one yet, I'll post mine. Hopefully it's not too hard:
-
damnit ptepid, you beat me to posting :P I had one lined up and everything. Oh well.
-
Yeah, I'm still working on mine. I'm using Pro Motions tile export plugin, that way I can tell if there are any identical tiles. I'm so smart.
-
Wow, completely off on Ptoing's. I thought it was a frog. That would explain why my leg looks so crippled.
-
I am pretty sure I know what it is but I can't get the pieces together... yet.
Yes? No?
If it is right I don't have time to make a new one, need sleep.
-
Dag nabbit, i was close. Didn't get this though. Oh well, I'll wait for the next one, and hope to get it.
-

Yep, that's it. :) Good job.
-
I had one lined up and everything.
Now is the time, Fish.
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/AlienQuark/puzzleshuffle.png)
I'd say this is fairly easy. Only 2 pieces are identical. Yup.
-
(http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/9103/dinoea5.gif) ? I'm pretty sure I screwed up the brown thing though.
EDIT: New one: (http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/3239/dino1kt4.gif)

AH well I had the top part done. Well done!
More More! :D
-
way to go Tomas, you got it right :D
-
way to go Tomas, you got it right :D
Ohh, much harder than I thought it would be.
-
Well, I made a pretty messy one, but that should be easy... if no one else has got any. I tried something different when making it. And I'm not gonna use that particular method again... But it works as a puzzle!
Ah, why am I even asking? This thread's been dead for days! Here you go, get on it.

wasn't too hard.
Here's another one:

-
(http://i8.tinypic.com/2hf5sn7.gif)
Some of the edges seemed really ambiguous/pointlesspatterns.
I'll update with a new one in a few. :) (that is, unless you want me to PAINSTAKINGLY FIGURE OUT WHERE ALL THOSE EDGE PIECES GO CORRECTLY. :P)
-
Yeah, I got the same:
-
Good job tomas, you got it. Sorry about the edges - I thought they would be easier.
-
(http://i2.tinypic.com/3zqhd91.gif)
Good luck, have fun. :)

(Guile voice) Too easy...
I had this all scrambled and ready to post, but I decided to test it out, despite the fact I knew it had no identical tiles. Good thing too, 'cause there was still some ambiguity, but it should be gone now.
-
(http://i3.tinypic.com/3zlf0q1.gif)
Pfft, call that a challenge?
NEW ONE IN A FEW.
edit: This one ain't hard.

-
Is this right? [edit- nope, obviously it isn't. close though ;D ]
-
Yay, the thread lives. See, I told you mine would be easy. Wasn't it easy? I sure as hell hope it was easy, because I spent HOURS trying to figure out how to make it as easy as possible! It's color coded, even. Blue on top, green on middle, brown on bottom, and there's a big figure standing there, and I even made some roads that snake around JUST to make sure there are no interchangable tiles. Also, borders. The one starting point for real life puzzles. Yeah, I sure do hope it was easy.
That's weird, Ptoing. A friend of mine on MSN also said he couldn't see it... but it's a normal Imageshack upload, and no one else has any problems...
-
Actually it was pretty difficult for me, perhaps because it's my first time, but more likely just bad genes.
Here's mine. I'm guessing this will be pretty hard because of the rendering style I used.

Pretty tricky one I have to say:

Tomas got it right, pretty quick too .

Well done, I'd only just finished it myself. Although, looking at yours now, I stuffed up the bottom right corner (shirt folds).
Props to ejay for great pixelling and design in this one too, very enjoyable to see the result once I got the pieces in the right place. :)
-
Tomas got it right, pretty quick too .
I really enjoyed solving your puzzle. It was hard but not too hard and I liked the design and colors of the drawing. I think I'll stop posting my solutions now though, it feels like I'm spoiling the fun for everyone else. :)

nah, your making us work harder and faster, improving our speeds just a little every time :D
-
Why not just include a link to your finished image, that way it shows the creator what you've done - but it wont spoil it for anyone that is still working on it.

Yeah I was thinking about that to

I'm going to test my JavaScript/CSS skills on this one. ::) :y: It's really fun to watch all the frustration when people are confronted with puzzles! Keep up the good shuffling!

Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but I'd post it anyway. Puzzle page: http://lickr.org/puzzle
I know I know, it's broken like shit, doesn't work in IE and not really useful. But I had to post it. :-*
-
Good job Lick! Now all it needs is a zoom feature, and it will be perfect ::)
-
Wow thats awesome lick saves a huge amount of time!
I do agree with the zoom its going to be hard to solve thing without zoom.
like 4x 2x feature will rule.
-
I also coded one but (started yesterday) but it can only load pics located my server (for safety reasons) >.<
(http://fil.razorback.free.fr/pixelpuz/GK2.png)
http://fil.razorback.free.fr/pixelpuz/ and load "GK2.png" to test it.
Good luck ;)
-
fil_razorback - cool, seems to work well. The interface design makes perfect sense but it has two usability issues- one is that the tiles' movement resolution is the screen resolution rather than the original image's. The second is the size of the work space- it's easy to run out of room .
-
I made a pretty simple design, which probably means it'll be a bit hard to figure out
(http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7657/sepgf8.png) (http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3575/togce3.png)
also made one pre-separated for convenience ;)
-
fil_razorback's puzzle (http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/6199/solve3tg8.gif)
I didn't use your online solver though. It would have been great, if you'd have some more space to work on (for example making the workspace twice as wide) and if the tiles snapped to a 8x8-grid when you move them around the canvas, meaning that the possible x- and y-coordinates of the individual tiles could only be multiples of 8.
-
tomas => Congrats ^^
This was the new Therion album's cover ^^
I'll try to find some free time to update the online solver. I also did an ofuscater (thing which messes your bitmap). I'll probably upload it tonight.
-
My take on .TakaM's puzzle. (http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5387/puzsolutiontw7.gif) The clouds are probably off by a few tiles. :sry:
-
Here its the ofuscater ^^
http://fil.razorback.free.fr/pixelpuz/Scrambler.rar
The instructions are in the .txt
(you just have to use print screen to save your result)

yeah those clouds are pretty off :P
-
Ah well, I suppose anything will look right after you've stared at it long enough. :-\
I'll take another shot at it soon enough.
-
Anybody tired to solve mine yet :D
-
for all we know scidt, its already solved :P
-
Lol, ok I guess it's a really hard one. The lines are indeed just an interesting effect i was working on. The picture will make up my alias in the middle. Since I was thing of it to be my avatar.

Updated the solver !
-Bigger workspace
-Magnet pieces

nice work, it would help a lot if you included some way of selecting multiple pieces and moving them round
-
Wow, thats really nice fil razorback! I solved a little of my own and just realized its reallllly hard! Goodluck to the one that solves it!
-
Did I get it right, SCiDT?

That is perfect down to the last pixel! I applaud you! :wah: Well Done!

This sounded like fun.

Faktablad, if you unscramble a puzzle, you have to make the next one!
-
maybe it'd work better as a free-for-all: if there's no puzzles left, anyone can make one?

Is this it?
-
So I'm not sure if this is a legal move, but Lawrence's solution looks right to me and I have one ready - so I am throwing caution to the wind and declaring it to be new puzzle time!
difficulty: probably kind of easy?
...apologies if this is a dick move. I really don't want to piss anybody off, but I figure more puzzles = success.
-
That actually looks pretty hard, I cant even begin to put any two pieces together.
-
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/drain-body-confirmed/nother12.gif)
Is this it?
about 2-3 pieces were off, but yeah, you got it.
*currently trying to figure out what Tocky's is*
-
That actually looks pretty hard, I cant even begin to put any two pieces together.
It looks hard, because it only has five colours, but if you collect the ones with similar patterns they should start to line up kind of easily. (though I can't really quite gauge the difficulty because I already know what it's supposed to look like).
-
Yeah, it's very hard cause of the blocky style!
-
I think I can make out some letters, but I don't know, I haven't got any puzzle so far.
-
ive now spent like 2 hours trying to get this puzzle, and its driving me nuts, so i thought i'd share what i've "accomplished" so far, in hopes that someone else sees something in my mess and can finish it...
it doesn't look like anything to me, but each tile in the big chunks doesn't really seem to fit anywhere else. Maybe i've just stred at it too long and i'll get laughed at in a minute, but oh well :)
whats interesting (to me at least) is that the straight bits where it seems to not fit well are mostly on the tiles themselves, not in the border between them... thats why i've joined it up like this.
Anyway, i cant stand looking at this any longer, enjoy!
-
I tried, and mine looked nothing like your segments. Tough nut to crack. Maybe even impossible, unlike real jigsaw puzzles, there is no one correct way.
-
Indeed the big problem here is ambivalence. There are lots of combinations which look like they are making sense, regardless of being right or not.
Same goes for Bob's castle. There are some tiles which are interchangable and it would not look broken. I urge people who are making puzzles that they make less noisy stuff and check that they do not have tiles which are pretty much identical.
Also, I would say, everyone should feel free to post a new puzzle if the newest one is not solved after 24 hours. This way we can keep this thing going.
Nothing speaks against having more than one puzzle open either.
Keep on puzzling
-
Okay, I think I should retract this one - it seems pretty unlikely that anyone will solve it, and, looking at mikeG's interpretation I can see where I messed up. I feel bad for posting such a broken puzzle.
Should I just post the solution or something?
-
Please do not. Maybe someday anyone will solve it. I'd love to try this one and I don't like to skip this thread until then ;)
-
Yeah, Tocky, no spoiling!
Just make sure to not make such a blocky one next time, ok? :D
I like SO wanted to solve that one, but almost all of the pieces fit 'equally well'.
Darn! I'm sure it's something awesome once you assemble it...
-
maybe a tempting link to the answer would help, some people who haven't started or quit can see, and people who are working on it can make themself not look at it.
-
Ok, well this is a great thread.

close! But the tile under the O should be replaced with the tile under the M
-
I was in the mood so I made something for you folks. :) I hope there ain't so many identical tiles. Well, we'll see if it's too hard. ;D

That's hard :'(
-
My friend got it right in about 20 minutes. At least it's possible. :)
-
You sure you just changed the places of the tiles and not rotated / flipped them? Coz all I'm getting is just these random shapes after I get that orange thing (I don't want to say it out loud coz I don't wanna spoil it) done. It's driving me nuts... maybe I'm just bad at this :P
-
About 10 minutes. At first I was a bit "eh?" and then it clicked what it was and I was "oh!" and it was really easy from there on.
As I can not be arsed to make another puzzle, whoever calls dibs after me to do one can make one!
-
That's not exactly right, but I don't care. ;D Nice job. :)
ter-o: Well, you can see the solution now. :P
-
Can you post the 100% correct image so we can see it?
-
Fixed mine, I think now it's 100% correct.
-
ter-o: ptoing has it right now. :)
ptoing: Yes, it's perfect down to last pixel. 8)

This is my best attempt, but I'm really not sure about the bottom row of tiles: like this? (https://pixelation.s3.amazonaws.com/puzzle_sol_maybe.gif)

yep, close enough. Those things at the bottom were supposed to be round bubbles.

Hey, while I remember, do you have the solution to your scrambled image for the descrable it thing?
A month ago my computer dies, takes with it the only copy I kept of the solution. That same week, ilkke comes and he asks me if I can send it to him. I say, you know what? I made this puzzle, I can put it back together. So I gave it a go, and spent hours doing it, and in the end it turns out even I couldn't do it, not exactly. So I really am sorry about how broken it was.
Anyway, it's something very close to:

Again, I 'm really sorry about this whole damn thing. :-[
