Yes, Cyangmou is a mod now since I felt that he would make a good addition after Helm asked me why he was not a mod already.
He seems like a helpful guy and knows what he is doing in the pixel department, plus he seems passionate about the subject.
Welcome him as a new mod :)
-
nice. good work, that dude. i dont know who you are
-
Kinda wondered why he wasn't one already, assumed he had already tuned down an offer
Welcome to the clan of the samurai Cyangmou :)
( is there a story behind your name by the way?)
-
:y:
Congrats on the mod-ship and thanks for all the help you've thrown my way!
-
thanks guys.
( is there a story behind your name by the way?)
wanted to initially just find name myself like something for a bigger online game.
Tried all names I usually used, tried all names I could think of, everything I tried was already taken by another user. (they were very creative, you know the stuff 16yo think is cool)
I don't like names with numbers or overly complex ones. (keep that usually for my passwords)
so I sat there half an hour and after the felt 100th try i wrote in cyan, which was ALSO taken (well who would have guessed...).
Then my right hand slipped and fondled the keyboard (was quite loud actually)
the outcome was what you see now, that's the whole exciting story ;)
Never changed the name since then anymore, because it's a quite unique one.

Always sounded french to me. Good luck with moderation, it can be a killer!

From his story, I would guess you pronounce it like a sad cow (ie. sigh ang mou)
-
sai- ang - mao in the traditional romanised chinese. my best guess, i this is the same as ai, or the same as ai but with a vowel shift to be more antipodean? where is cyangmou in the world?
me in japanese i would be toki, but um this thead not about me. congrats comrade cyan!
-
Why, cyanmou isn't even close to pinyin.
-
Yay :y:;D

I think you'd be 'tokkī' (トッキー), rather.
-
shit, how do you get two ks next to each other? my sister likes this shop, kikki k. she tells me its japanese. i tell her it cant be. i dont want to have to tell her i was wrong. dokki dokki

[name] Rundle you were right, it is japanese

You should read about the sokuon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokuon).
-
Yay man ;D
-
Hey, congrats man ;)
-
Congrats :D
-
Uh-oh, there's a new sheriff in town, pew pew pew :blind:
-
Well earned. :y: Congrats. :)
-
Add me to the lot who thought he was a mod already. :P
-
thanks pals =)
ALthough I am feeling more like the cleaning lady right now.
#1)
First thing I realised here: Feature chest threads which were discussed by other mods some months ago are now in the feature chest for everyone to look up (ptoing already saved the images, so they won't vanish)
#2)
Second thing I am still realising and which will take a while to finish since it's quite a lot of work:
there is now a new Pixelart Childboard called "Good Reads"
http://wayofthepixel.net/index.php?board=26.0 (http://wayofthepixel.net/index.php?board=26.0)
In this part of the Forum I move in a lot of threads which haven't place in the feature box, but they contain good art, good progress and good critique.
I gave every thread a fitting header, which contains the most important things discussed in the topics, so if you are looking for help on tiles, anatomy or whatever it might be a cool idea to look up this stored knowledge - there is a lot of highly valuable information.
Some parts of those threads are broken. If you realize that the images in one of your earlier critiques for some of those threads doesn't work anymore it'd be cool if you could replace them.
-
Cool! Nice work :)
-
Good Reads is a good archival step, hopefully there'll be something that points to the future as well at some point.
I'm really sad to see that a lot of my old images in critiques have gone down. There's no backups, I'm afraid.
-
Yeah. I am wondering how feasable it would be that we allow people to make attachements so they can upload images directly to the pixelation server. I doubt that would be that much of a burden on space and bandwidth. Crow?
-
I'd rather not. The server we're renting is rather light on actual disk space, and hosting images can also lead to various copyright problems I'd rather not deal with. We can use archive.today (https://archive.today), or upload the images elsewhere.
-
I'd guess an archive of every image ever posted here would be < 30mb, and can't imagine pixelation being swamped with copyright claims. If images are on the server, you could generate and store a few crisp resizes too, avoiding all the blurred zoom problems.

Anything you have in mind for the " future" part? We've been meaning to get some activities started, but the addition of the animation forum and just general chance brought a certain flow I didn't want to mess with right then.
-
A new skin would be nice.
Plussing replies, both for thanking artists and so there's a visible way to see which posts have been the most useful (for skimming and archival purposes). This would completely replace the current karma system. Just a counter for how many plusses you've gotten on the whole.
Automoderation by minusing posts, if they get more than n amount of minuses they are autohidden. Drama solved forever, mods can do something more useful than janitorial duty.
-
Yeah, I don't think size would be an issue. At least not for pixelart. Hrm.
-
Granted, size is probably not an issue. I'm just not very comfortable with such a feature in general, but sure, we can enable it.
Edit: Seems to work.
Editē: Feedback on the limitations (4 per post, maximum total size 192KB, maximum individual size 128KB) is appreciated.

On a different forum I go on (Picture Wars (plugging :-[)) they used to have a forum uploader which was truth be told, really handy, but it managed to screw things up a lot.
what went wrong was it broke the hosting site's terms of use
also it was fairly insecure and allowed a lot of things it shouldn't to be uploaded, leading to massive amounts of bandwith usage, which is why they [the forum people up above] noticed
they then suspected someone had uploaded malware, nuked the whole folder, and almost permanently closed the account
So says the admin on PW, I'm not sure how much that applies here, but a warning.

One step at a time I guess.
All of us (myself included) are waiting for improvements on the technical site.
But since Crow is the only one (as far as I know) who actually works on the technical stuff and he is also just doing it as hobby it takes time and there is barely any "reward".
However as nice as a new skin, a thanking system and whatever are, it has very little to do with the people hanging around here anyways and not much with the spirit of this board.
After all it's about the crowd of people hanging around here constantly and sharing thoughts - not about the forum software.
Everyone is free to contribute to the qualities wshich really makes this place.
WIth art discussions, critiques, and discussions of all other stuff related to the craft.
As long as we keep that going everything is fine.

Shouldn't apply to forum attachments at all.

congratz!

Congratulations Cyangmou, you're definitely a good choice :y:
