Title: Archer/Kyre's Top-down attempts...
Post by: ArcherofLight on February 01, 2010, 04:49:51 am
Hi! I'm Archer of Light, a.k.a. Kyre Legan, and Olly talked me into trying top-down spriting. I also hail originally from Picture Wars, but I've left permanently, for several reasons. Anyways, I'm not a real awesome top-down spriter like any of you, but I'm learning.

Here's my latest(and relative first) attempt at top down spriting:

C&C requested, as well as any links to helpful tutorials.

Hello ArcherofLight. I don't know why you decided to take my avatar with you when you left, but I would have liked to have been notified of it.
It's not a very good re-skin either, particularly the green used for the eyes.

The ship needs better color too. I'm not a fan of outlines that are brighter than the inside color.

That's actually part of the whole top-down style. The upper 'plates' are surrounded by a brighter band of color before end and moving into angles.

Now, he chose to do a smooth, flat ship, something not terribly good for a beginner to try in terms of top-down. Blocky is best, and I've told him this already, but to no avail. So it may look a bit off for a while until we help him figure out what he's doing.

But the bright outline isn't his fault.

I see what he's doing now. Still, the color looks off. The outlines are more colorful than the body.

Sorry Jager. I was just bored one day, give me a minute and I'll change it to something... well more me. And the color on the ship definately isn't final. I just needed something to keep it from being black like the background...
