Title: Am I doing this right? [Newbie]
Post by: costamista on July 16, 2017, 03:39:30 pm
Hi! I'm completely new to pixel art or even art itself, so i'm still trying to figure out how to work with lighting, shadows, 3d objects etc... This is my first attempt at it:

I would like some feedback in case anything's wrong so I make sure I'm progressing in the right way
Thanks in advance!

This is a pretty simplistic object at its core,  so a standalone sample doesn't tell me much.  Nothing looks wrong with it lighting-wise.   You'll need more complex pieces to really see where things could be improved.

The shading looks pretty dull. It looks like you are using low opacity white and black for shadows and highlights.
I recommend reading this, specially the hue-shifting part: http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
