try making the colors a little less saturated... but not too much!

Save as anything but .jpg, please. :'(
I suggest shading and definitely, definitely decreasing your colors' saturation. You mihgt want to start with something smaller to get down some basic skills before moving on to larger pieces.
Good luck!

ok ive de saturated it a little bit and ive had a go at merging the shades of colour aswell

The shading doesn't have enough contrast from the base colors to be noticeable. I don't think pure white highlights are a good idea either.

yh i think im gonna take mod advice im gonna have a go at smaller peices and ill come back to this one

It's a HUmar (http://www.pso-world.com/images/classes/humar.jpg). In any case, I'd suggest looking at fighter sprites (your basic King of Fighters and Capcom types) as better inspirations. Your colours are way too jarring, if you'll notice in the actual art, they're warmer, more orange with brownish shades than burn-your-retinas red and yellow.
If you're just getting into pixel making though, it might be better to start on easier things. There are plenty of tutorials listed for your enjoyment.
